WICKENBURG UNIFIED SCHOOL DISCTRICT OPERATES ON A 4 DAY WEEK   MONDAY - THURSDAY

POSITION SUMMARY:  To assist in the assessment of students’ speech development level; implementing goals for remediation of speech and language deficits; and providing information and/or direction as may be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assesses students’ communication skills, without interpretation (e.g. articulation, language, fluency, voice, etc.) for the purpose of determining their speech and language deficits and developing recommendations;
  • Serves on Individualized Education Program (IEP) team as appropriate.
  • Conducts speech and language screenings using district approved screening instruments for the purpose of determining students’ speech and language deficits;
  • Observes students in the educational environment
  • Confers with classroom teacher for the purpose of providing requested information, implementing plans for services and/or making recommendations;
  • Maintains various files and/or records for the purpose of providing written support and documentation required;
  • Performs record keeping for students receiving speech services;
  • Prepares materials appropriate for individuals or small groups (e.g. speech therapy, teaching materials, etc.);
  • Provides direct instructional services to students for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of speech-language deficits;
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities in relation to speech and language needs;
  • Obtains, analyzes and interprets current and additional diagnostic information from appropriate persons and available records for speech-language purposes
  • Obtains pertinent case history;
  • Obtains data from other professionals and parents
  • Prepares, presents and explains data to IEP Team
  • Supervises SLPA
  • Conducts ChildFind Activities
  • Complies with all rules, regulations and policies of the Governing Board.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree an licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services as a Speech Language Pathologist;
  • Hold current certification of Clinical Competence through ASHA;
  • Degree from an approved post-secondary Speech-Language Pathology Assistant training program;
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable;
  • Ability to pass a background check and maintain a current Fingerprint Clearance Card.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a public school, preferred;
  • Job related experience within specialized field;
  • Experience in working with school age children;
  • Previous experience in an educational setting preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Computer Skills – Demonstrated competency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and typing.
  • Communication Skills – Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals. Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Math Ability – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms. Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear.  The employee occasionally will stand and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.  Employee will frequently interact with the public and other staff members.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Salary : $67,275 - $75,460
