JOB TITLE: Accountant
WAGE/HOUR
STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Accounting
DEPT./SCHOOL: DSC – Finance and Accounting

Primary Purpose:
Assist with general accounting work relating to the preparation, administration
and control of district financial resources. Work under supervision and follow
procedures to maintain applicable accounting records in an orderly and accurate
manner.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
Experience:
Two years accounting or related experience preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
1. Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles
established by the Governmental Accounting System Board (GASB)
2. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, evaluate accounting
problems, develop data, and recommend improved procedures
3. Knowledge of computerized accounting systems
4. Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner
5. Highly proficient in Excel and other spreadsheet applications
6. Team player with effective written and verbal communication
7. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Record, review and maintain complete and accurate records of financial
transactions in appropriate journals and ledgers using proper accounting
methods and procedures
2. Assist with bank transactions including transfers, deposits and statement
reconciliations
3. Audit deposit documentation and record in accounting system
4. Review accounts payable invoices and process checks for payment
5. Disburse transaction reports to various campuses and departments
6. Reconcile and prepare monthly sales tax payments
7. Assist with the maintenance of fixed asset records and prepare depreciation
reports for annual audit
8. Prepare journal entries for posting
9. Contact district personnel and outside entities to correct or obtain information
needed to resolve problems
10. Maintain current and appropriate documentation of accounting transactions
11. Receive incoming calls, answer questions, and direct calls to the appropriate
personnel
12. Prepare documentation for federal reporting requirements
13. Meet established deadlines
14. Maintain accurate and auditable records
15. Maintain confidentiality of information
16. Provide support to the Accounting Coordinator
17. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct according to District Policy
18. Support administrative policy
19. Represent the school system to the community in a positive professional way
20. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward staff, visitors and patrons
21. Assist other finance department personnel as directed
