– Summer Adventures Camp Program Assistant
Purpose Statement
The Before & After School - Summer Adventures Camp Program Assistant supports the Before & After School and Summer Adventures Camp Teacher in providing a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for students. This role assists in implementing hands-on, age-appropriate academic and recreational activities while ensuring student safety, positive behavior management, and effective communication with staff and families. The Program Assistant actively participates in student activities, helps maintain program materials, and ensures compliance with district policies and state regulations.
Job Title: Before & After School Program – Summer Adventures Camp Program Assistant
Hourly Wage: $14.00 - $15.75/hour
Reports To: Manager of Before & After School Programs; Before & After School Program Summer Adventures Camp Site Leader/Assistant Site Leader(s)
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
Working Days
- Attend Required Professional Development: Staff Orientation and Training – as scheduled, prior to camp start date
- Attend site team meetings as scheduled, potentially outside of program hours
- Employment dates: approximately mid-May through mid-August with opportunity to extend employment into the following school year
- Monday through Friday on camp days, as scheduled
- Program hours: 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Individual employee hours will be determined based on program enrollment and may vary week-to-week. Work hours may/may not match program hours, depending on employee qualifications, availability, and program need.
- Employees are scheduled up to 29-40 hours per week
Minimum Qualifications
- 16 years of age
- Experience working with school-age children in an educational or recreational setting, preferred.
- Ability to actively engage with students and assist with program activities.
- Successful candidates are subject to post-offer pre-employment physical.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to take initiative.
- Must pass all required background checks and meet state licensing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Enrolled in an institution of higher education or degreed professional
- Experience working with school-age youth
- Experience managing large groups of school-age youth
Essential Functions
Student Engagement & Activity Support
- Assist in the facilitation of high-quality, engaging, and age-appropriate academic and recreational activities.
- Actively participate in activities with students, encouraging engagement and interaction.
- Support students in completing tasks and adapting instructional activities to meet diverse needs.
- Help reinforce positive behavior management techniques to ensure a respectful and inclusive environment.
Supervision & Safety
- Monitor students during program activities, transitions, and dismissal, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Assist with student supervision during arrival, snack time, outdoor play, and structured activities.
- Follow program safety protocols and respond appropriately to student incidents or emergencies.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
Communication & Relationship Building
- Communicate expectations and program guidelines to students in a positive and effective manner.
- Establish and maintain a supportive and collaborative relationship with the Teacher, site staff, and leadership team.
- Provide assistance in responding to student or parent inquiries, escalating concerns to the Teacher or Site Leader as needed.
- Support a welcoming and inclusive program environment for all participants.
Administrative & Operational Duties
- Assist with attendance tracking, communication logs, and other program documentation.
- Help prepare and organize materials and supplies for activities.
- Monitor and maintain program space cleanliness and proper use of resources.
- Support special event programming, field trips, and guest speaker engagements.
Professional Development & Compliance
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification with AED training, as well as other required program certifications.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, staff meetings, and required training sessions.
- Adhere to program policies, procedures, and state licensing requirements.
- Stay informed of program updates and actively implement new initiatives as required.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
