GIFTED AND TALENTED COORDINATOR

BASIC FUNCTION:
The district gifted and talented coordinator plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and enriching environment for gifted students across all schools in the district. The Gifted and Talented Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the gifted and talented program through facilitation of opportunities and supporting the BCS vision for a robust gifted and talented program. In collaboration with school and district administration, the Gifted and Talented Coordinator oversees and coordinates specialized opportunities for gifted and talented students and high potential students. He or she cultivates a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence in gifted education throughout the district. The Gifted and Talented coordinator serves as a beacon for others in the field, setting high standards and inspiring continuous improvement.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- In collaboration with the principals and district leadership, lead the development of innovative programs driven by the district vision and tailored to meet the unique needs of gifted students. This involves designing curriculum enhancements, enrichment activities, and specialized educational opportunities.
- Actively collaborate with district and school leadership, teachers, and staff to ensure that gifted education is integrated effectively into the broader educational framework.
- Build positive relationships throughout the district and community that foster a supportive network that enhances the overall educational experience for gifted students.
- Actively work to identify gifted and talented students advocating for the needs of gifted and high potential students within the district.
- Effectively communicate the vision of the program to ensure that stakeholders are informed and engaged in the program's success.
- Assess the effectiveness of gifted education programs through data analysis and feedback
mechanisms. Use ongoing evaluation to inform strategic adjustments and ensure that
programs remain responsive to the evolving needs of gifted students.
- Guide planning meetings with teachers of the gifted in an effort to build teacher capacity to plan classroom differentiated instruction for gifted learners.
- Assist teachers with gifted/talented materials, resources and other implementation needs.
- Provide professional development opportunities and support for district and schools.
- Review and oversee the data collection and analysis process for Gifted/Talented and
Primary Talent Pool referrals.
- Monitor the administration of tests and analyze scores for the identification of grades 4-12 students for GT services.
- Monitor the accuracy of confidential records as required by state GT regulations, district policy, and administrative regulation, pertaining to the GT teacher and students.
- Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate scheduled seminars and/or other specialized opportunities designated for GT and Primary Talent Pool students.
- Conference with individual teachers to address social/emotional, underachievement and other gifted-related issues.
- Review the support and extended learning process of GT students toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals.
- Review all communication with parents regarding student GT strengths, goals and progress.
- Lead efforts to communicate with parents enrichment opportunities beyond regular classroom experiences.
- Coordinate additional enrichment opportunities to ensure and maximize access for all gifted and high potential students.
- Continuously strive to improve professional competence and collaboration with colleagues and communities (participation in KAGE).
- Participate in initiatives of the School and District leadership as requested.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Valid State Teacher Certificate
- Completed or currently pursuing an endorsement in Gifted Education
