CLASS TITLE: GIFTED & TALENTED RESOURCE TEACHER
BASIC FUNCTION: To work with gifted and talented students in addition to the regularly assigned teacher and to work with regular teachers to build capacity in the use of differentiated instructional strategies for gifted and talented students.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Build teacher capacity through collaboration and consultation with teachers to plan classroom differentiated instruction for gifted learners
- Assist teachers with gifted/talented materials and resource needs
- Provide professional development opportunities and support for district and schools
- Initiate the data collection and analysis process for Gifted/Talented and Primary Talent Pool referrals
- Administer tests and analyze scores for the identification of grade 4-12 students for GT services
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by state GT regulation, district policy, and administrative regulation, pertaining to GT teacher and students
- Meet and instruct scheduled seminars and Project Lab sessions designated for GT and Primary Talent Pool students
- Conference with individual GT students to address social/emotional, underachievement, and other gifted-related issues
- Support and extend the learning process of GT students toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, seminars, and projects to communicate these objectives to students, as adopted by the local and state Board of Education
- Communicate with parents regarding student GT strengths, goals, and progress
- Inform parents of enrichment opportunities beyond regular classroom experiences
- Continuously strive to improve professional competence and collaboration with colleagues and communities
- Participate in initiatives of the Instructional Services Department
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Adhere to the professional code of ethics
- Be familiar with and incorporate the use of technology in daily tasks
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-Valid State Teacher Certificate
-Endorsement in Gifted Education
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
187 days. Salary and work year to be established by the board.
