Job Description: Special Education Homebound Teacher
Position Title: Homebound Teacher
Reports To: Director of Student Support Services

Position Overview
The Homebound Teacher provides individualized instruction and services to children with disabilities who are enrolled in Early Intervention Programs and/or unable to attend school due to medical, developmental, or other qualifying reasons. This role focuses on fostering academic, social, and developmental growth in a home or alternative setting, ensuring compliance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Support
- Deliver one-on-one or small-group instruction based on IEP goals and state standards.
- Design and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to the child’s developmental and educational needs.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to suit the student’s abilities and home environment.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Assessment and Documentation
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor progress and inform instructional adjustments.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and IEP goal progression.
- Prepare and submit progress reports, IEP updates, and other required documentation.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
Collaboration
- Work closely with families, caregivers, and other professionals (e.g., therapists, medical providers, and interventionists) to create a cohesive support system for the student.
- Formulate IEPs and conduct IEP meetings, providing input and recommendations for goal setting and instructional strategies.
- Conduct re evaluation meetings, providing input and recommendations for goal setting and instructional strategies.
Compliance and Training
- Ensure all instructional activities align with IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) requirements and district policies.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated on special education practices and intervention strategies.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- An earned Bachelor’s Degree (A) or higher.
- Mississippi Educator License with Teacher Endorsement.
- Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally
Experience
- Experience working with children with disabilities in an educational or therapeutic setting.
- Knowledge of early intervention strategies and developmental milestones.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with families and multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficient in maintaining documentation and managing IEP-related processes.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently in non-traditional settings.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel to childcare centers and/ or designated instructional sites.
- Capability to lift and carry teaching materials and assistive devices as needed.
