The Pottsgrove School District has multiple openings for our Instructional Assistant I positions for the 2024-2025 school year.
REPORTS TO: Special Education Teacher/ Supervisor of Special Education/ Building Principal
JOB SUMMARY: Provide the student or students academic and physical assistance required under the guidance of the teacher and in a professional and diplomatic manner that complies with confidentiality requirements.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Protect the confidentiality of all pupil information in accordance with district policy.
- Prepare instructional materials, implement instructional activities as assigned by the teacher, and record pupil progress in all instructional areas.
- Assist the student(s) in situations that may require help in physical, academics and/or behavior modification programs; maintain a progress report.
- Assist student(s) with organization of workspace, assignments, and recording homework.
- Follow the directions of the special education teacher or the regular education teacher in the inclusion setting.
- Assist the teacher with small group instruction and provide coursework assistance to other students in the classroom as needed.
- Observe student behaviors and assist in correcting minor issues; alert the teacher of serious issues.
- Participate as a team member in program planning as requested.
- Assist student in physical and specific self-care activities such as feeding, dressing, and cleaning and observe student for body language relative to a medical condition and report findings to the nurse.
- Assist the teacher with evaluating and reinforcing pupil lessons and mastery of all annual goals and short-term objectives.
- Perform clerical duties including but not limited to typing correspondence, answering phones, and copying.
- Assist on class field trips, monitor students as assigned, and monitor and assist pupils during lunch period.
- Escort pupils to and from bus/van, gym class, library, and the nurse’s office.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars as per supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Teacher and the Director of Special Education.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Escort students from the cafeteria to the playground for recess; supervise students while on the playground, ensuring their safety.
- Distribute lunch tickets to students as needed; escort students to the cafeteria and supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch period.
- Escort students from the cafeteria to their encore classes and from classes to the playground.
- Monitor students as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma required, Associates Degree preferred
- Experience in working with children required
- Twenty hours of Professional Development required each year.
- Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
- Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
- FBI Criminal History Record
- Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Must be considered “Highly Qualified” per the requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Starting Rate: $15.92/hour - 7 hours per day

Work Year: 181 days (Follows the school calendar - late August to early June with reasonable assurance to continue each school year after the summer)
