JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Plumber
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Hold a current plumbing license.
- Hold and maintain a valid New Jersey driver's license for the type of equipment to be driven, with no serious violations.
- Demonstrate knowledge, a minimum of three (3) years of experience, and proficiency in plumbing work involving a variety of layout, installation, and maintenance tasks.
- Have experience with preparing and working from sketches, plans, specification, and roughing-in sheets in accordance with the plumbing code or approved trade practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organization skills.
- Required criminal history background check and proof of United States citizenship or legal resident alien status.
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities, Coordinator of Facilities, Custodial Manager
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform general maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas and as assigned, in accordance with all applicable codes and regulations.
- Perform maintenance and repairs that require knowledge of plumbing, or perform other general maintenance repairs. Obtain all necessary permits, inspections, and approvals.
- Ensure that the work site and conditions are safe and code compliant.
- Perform regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards immediately.
- Respond to emergency situations and perform necessary repairs.
- Ensure that work orders have been written and approved before performing tasks.
- Keep a log of all maintenance functions and repairs performed including labor and materials.
- Recommend repairs or procedures that are beyond the scope skill or experience, outlining the work needed and specifications required of an outside contractor.
- Ensure that all applicable fire, safety, health, and environmental regulations and laws are observed.
- Maintain an adequate supply of parts and supplies usually used in repairs, and request needed supplies through the established procedures of the district and maintain inventory control.
- Maintain in a safe and operational condition all tools and equipment assigned and personal items used at work.
- Assist with snow and ice removal by shoveling, plowing, and/or sanding walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps and be available to report for assignment.
- Report immediately any damage or vandalism to facilities, or theft of equipment.
- Operate all equipment necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
- Make recommendations for improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of the maintenance operations of the district.
- Attend required meetings, and serve on staff committees.
- Participate in all Professional Development, including regulatory Right-To-Know, Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), and Safety Training.
- Display a cooperative and pleasant attitude at all times, particularly when in the presence of staff, students, and community visitors.
- Demonstrate positive attitudes, appropriate attire, grooming, and an effective work ethic.
- Notify and assist the administration and appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, and potentially dangerous or unusual situations, following policy and regulation.
- Understand and communicate current developments in the maintenance areas through reading, participation in appropriate workshops and meetings, and involvement in trade organizations.
- Demonstrate sufficient strength to lift fifty (50) pounds and be able to move them as far as fifty (50) feet at a time.
- Demonstrate sufficient strength and dexterity to operate the equipment and tools necessary for the cleaning of the facilities.
- Demonstrate the stamina to stand walk for periods as long as two (2) hours without discomfort.
- Demonstrate the ability to climb and work off a ladder, scaffold and mechanical lift.
- Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New Jersey school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Superintendent, or designee may assign from time to time and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Twelve (12) months.
- Contract terms, salary, and benefits as established by the collective bargaining agreement.
- Conditions established by laws and codes of New Jersey; and policies, rules, and regulations established by the Passaic Board of Education.
- Non-Tenurable.
EVALUATION: Evaluated by the Director of Facilities, Coordinator of Facilities, or Custodial
Manager.
