Summary: 

The office of Student Support Services offers a paid school psychology internship for eligible candidates in school psychology.  This position reports to the Project Specialist.  

 

WISH: Winchester Investing in Student Mental Health will build a collaborative partnership between WPS and universities.  Under the direct supervision of a licensed school psychologist, interns will work to meet the following roles and responsibilities:

 

  • Conducts psychological evaluations to assess students’ cognitive, personality, and behavioral functioning and their educational needs and writes comprehensive psychological reports and holds parent conferences to discuss results
  • Participates in child study team meetings and in eligibility meetings to assist in the determination that a child has a disability and needs special education services
  • Consults and collaborates with school administration, instructional staff, and parents regarding the individual behavioral and academic needs of students
  • Assists in the implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program and provides consultative services using a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) approach for assigned schools
  • Works collaboratively with school-based teams to support students with emotional and behavioral disabilities and provides counseling services for these students
  • Provides crisis intervention in response to critical incidents using the NASP PREPaRE curriculum and assists in conducting threat assessments
  • Participates in scholarly activities and didactic training seminars to support professional growth and development
  • Performs other duties and accepts other responsibilities as assigned by the Intern Supervisor or Project Specialist

 

Students interested in applying for an internship with WPS must provide the following materials electronically via the online application process:

  • Verification of completion of all coursework/practicum experiences of a school psychology program
  • A recommendation from the university that the student is eligible to enter into a school psychology internship

Qualifications/Required Education and Experience:

  • Working towards a Master’s degree in school psychology and is eligible for internship as determined by the graduate program
  • Has strong oral and written communication abilities and productive time management skills
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and colleagues

Salary:

  • Full-Time:  $50,715 annually, 7 hours a day, 180 days (two semesters), OR 7 hours a day, 90 days (one semester), benefits
  • Part-Time:  Less than 7 hours a day, less than 90 days total, no benefits

Extras:

  • Housing:  $1,200 for Full-Time Employees; $600 for Part-Time Employees, one time payment
  • Tuition Assistance:  $5,000 for Full-Time Employees; $2,500 for Part-Time Employees
