Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing defective mechanical equipment and machinery used in DJ’s Boudain food processing operation. This role ensures that all equipment operates efficiently and complies with food safety standards, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role requires following all HACCP, SSOP, GMP’s and Food Safety rules and regulations. This position is from 6am to 6pm, Monday through Friday with Saturdays as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
o Perform preventive maintenance on food processing equipment, including mixers, conveyors, grinders, and packaging equipment.
o Diagnose mechanical issues and execute repairs to minimize production downtime.
o Fabricate or modify machine parts using tools such as lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
o Perform weekly checks on bearings, chains, sprockets, and other moving parts, making repairs as needed.
o Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repairs and maintenance.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
o Identify root causes of mechanical failures.
o Recommend and implement corrective actions.
o May use diagnostic tools and equipment to test and calibrate machines.
o Collaborate with other departments to resolve technical issues impacting production.
Safety and Compliance:
o Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines, ensuring machinery is clean and contamination-free.
o Adhere to OSHA standards and company policies regarding workplace safety.
o Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
o Remove and replace worn or defective parts of drive mechanism or hydraulic system, returning all unused parts to the parts room, disposing of defective parts, and returning shop tools to the tool room in a neat and orderly fashion.
o Maintain a clean and organized work area to include: Maintenance Shop, Maintenance Cart, the Boiler/ Utilities Area, and any equipment worked on.
Inventory and Documentation:
o Manage inventory of spare parts and tools, ordering replacement as needed with supervisor approval.
o Keep detailed documentation of work performed, including logs of maintenance activities and parts usage.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
· GED or High School Diploma required.
· Vocational training or certification in mechanical or industrial maintenance is preferred.
Experience:
· Minimum 2 years’ experience in a maintenance technician or similar roles, preferably in a food processing or manufacturing environment.
· Experience working with a variety of machine tools and welding equipment.
· Experience with electrical troubleshooting to include 24v, 120v, 240v, and 480v systems.
· Experience with hand and power tools required.
· PLC Troubleshooting (Siemens) experience a plus.
· Boiler and refrigeration (HVAC) experience a plus.
Skills:
· Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
· Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
· Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
· Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
· Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
· Excellent organizational, multitasking, and attention to details skills.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
· Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing production needs.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team setting.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift to 50 pounds and work in various environments, including hot, cold, and wet conditions.
· Ability to stand, crouch, and climb ladders for extended periods.
