Job Description
The SBA Loan Officer is responsible for receiving, reviewing, credit structuring, documenting, and processing loans secured by the Small Business Administration (SBA) to primarily include 7(a) and Express loans. He or she meets with applicants to explain credit policies and to obtain loan information and documentation and serves borrowers and prospective borrowers promptly and professionally. The SBA Loan Officer is responsible for business development and marketing of SBA loans, and D.L. Evans Bank’s products and services. He or she reviews credit information for new and existing SBA 7(a) and SBA Express loans and makes a recommendation for approval or decline. The SBA Loan Officer identifies, analyzes, and evaluates loan risks and compensating factors and ensures the safety of Bank assets. He or she assembles loan packages and ensures that all loans underwritten and sent for approval are complete and that they meet the Bank's standards and procedures, SBA’s standard operating procedures, and regulatory underwriting guidelines. The SBA Loan Officer assists with the processing and closing of SBA loans.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience helpful, particularly in a financial environment
- Advanced working knowledge of financial statements, cash flow analysis, tax return analysis, interpretation of balance sheets, accounting principles, loan structure, and commercial underwriting requirements
- Accurate and attentive to detail
- Well organized
- Good typing skills
- Willing and able to help others
- Able to use a computer, adding machine, copy machine, and basic business equipment
- Able to get along well with coworkers
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applicatons
Responsibilities
- Aids in the training and development of SBA lending bank-wide to help increase with knowledge base of those who are processing SBA loans
- Interviews, takes applications, and processes preliminary documentation on SBA loan products and discusses loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation in such a manner as to elicit positive responses from customers
- Analyzes and evaluates loan requests and approves loan within specified limits; prepares written submission for consideration by the Senior Lender, Regional Credit Officer, or Senior Loan Committee; and identifies problems or potential problems with credit information and coordinates with the necessary party to resolve the problems
- Completes lending functions in accordance with established Bank policies and legal requirements
- Determines SBA eligibility on all SBA loan requests and analyzes and structures all requests efficiently
- Reviews and analyzes financial data for SBA loans including, but not limited to, reviewing cash flow analysis, analyzing tax returns and income statements, reviewing, and revising loan write-ups and financial statement spreadsheets
- Reviews potential borrower's assets and ensures that the assets meet lending requirements, they are derived from acceptable sources, and the Borrower has acceptable levels of reserves
- Reviews the borrower's credit history by appraising the manner in which obligations have been met and financial affairs are being managed and investigates derogatory credit
- Reviews and/or underwrites credit approval memos and makes recommendations consistent with D.L. Evans Bank Loan Policies and Procedures and SBA Standard Operating Procedures
- Evaluates collateral available to secure the SBA loan and ensures that D.L. Evans Bank used commercial reasonable and prudent practices to identify and secure collateral properly
- Ensures that all documentation is contained in the loan file and that the loan file is complete, it meets underwriting standards, it follows SBA lending requirements, and it meets regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of Bank assets
- Makes recommendations to the approving officer for approval or denial of SBA loan
- Reviews periodic borrowing base certificates, contracts, and complex draw requests for compliance
- Reviews third party reports as necessary, including, but not limited to, appraisal, environmental, title, insurance, UCC searches, entity documentation (such as corporate by-laws and operating agreements), business valuation, and franchise agreements
- Assists with the credit analysis of servicing requests
- Performs periodic reviews of loans in the SBA portfolio as required by D.L. Evans Bank Policy
- Seeks to minimize SBA compliance, audit, and procedural exceptions
- Provides frequent communication to all parties involved in SBA loan transactions in a positive and constructive manner
- Maintains and projects the Bank's professional reputation
- Keeps management informed of area activities and any significant problems or concerns
- Attends meetings as required
- Serves as a representative for D.L. Evans Bank in the community
- Promotes D.L. Evans Bank at all times
- Completes special projects as assigned
