Position Overview
The Estimator/Project Manager is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for excavation projects and managing their execution from start to finish. This role requires a combination of technical knowledge, project management skills, and effective communication to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to prepare detailed cost estimates for excavation, site preparation, grading, utility installation, and other services.
- Conduct site visits to assess project requirements, potential challenges, and opportunities.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Prepare and present proposals, including detailed scopes of work and cost breakdowns, to clients.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of costs, material prices, and labor rates.
Project Management
- Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring timely completion of milestones.
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Monitor project budgets, adjust plans to control costs, and address any deviations proactively.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards on job sites.
- Conduct regular site visits to oversee work progress and resolve on-site issues.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Administrative and Reporting
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including contracts, change orders, schedules, and reports.
- Track project performance, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Address and resolve client concerns or disputes professionally and efficiently.
- Collaborate with the finance team to manage billing and collections.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or Related Field Experience preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in excavation, construction, or a similar industry.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of excavation techniques, equipment, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Heavy Bid) and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Procore).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with construction contracts, permits, and regulatory requirements.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices in the construction industry.
