Employee Benefits Specialist - Overview
Grow with a well-established, local, 50-year-old Professional Employer Organization (PEO/ASO). Become a part of our professional Human Resources Outsourcing Group. Become our expert in various group health programs, including rules, regulations, compliance with federal and state laws related to providing and supporting various groups of employees, of all sizes. Constantly be researching for law updates, competitive rates and reductions for larger groups of employees. Biggest part of job is accurate data collection of each group employee. Will audit & reconcile all Groups and Carriers monthly invoices to compare and balance amount billed by Carrier against actual premiums paid /collected
Qualifications:
- Must be able to read, write and speak English and Spanish fluently
- 3-5 years’ experience in employee benefits administration; including:
- Proven experience in a Benefit Specialist role or similar position within human resources. Familiarity with federal laws governing employee group including, timelines, employee enrollment, qualifying life-events, and cancellation or change rules before or after Open enrollment. Must also be up to date on PPACA / ERISA / COBRA compliance rules; Wrap documentation compliance for groups over 50 employees.
- Must be knowledgeable with setting up / enrolling / full-cycle administration of 50 employee group health plans, including major medical plans from several different Insurance Carrier-Providers. Also help administer ancillary insurance plans including dental, vision, short- long-term disability plans, term life insurance, flexible spending accounts, Section 125 plans, etc.
- Knowledge of preparing annual Employee benefit plan audits. - Highly prefer experience in preparing & submitting government Form 1095c / assist TPAs with Form 5500 (401k) audits.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements related to employee benefits.
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis to support decision-making processes.
- Familiarity with HRIS systems.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly to employees.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential for managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Looking for someone that can dig into the weeds, research and locate out-of-city brokers that will assist in locating better / more competitive employee benefit blanket coverage plans, especially for large groups of 500 employees or more.
Responsibilities:
- Process new enrollments (in a group or one-at-a-time) and delete terminated employees quickly and accurately.
- Must know group health insurance well enough that you are always prepared for Q&As with newly enrolled, existing employees and their family members calling in for answers, and employees that want to terminate or cancel coverage prior to the open-enrollment period.
- Review monthly premium payroll deductions, new enrollments, terminations with payroll department.
- Resolve employee issues with Plan Carriers / Benefits Administrators (TPAs) and insurance providers.
- Assist employees in enrolling in dental, vision, life, short/long term disability & other ancillary medical plans.
- Provide new hires with explanations of benefits and instructing them on plan changes, life events/fulfillment procedures.
- Provide ongoing support for the HR and benefits teams in our corporate office and at Client sites.
- Consult with employees about eligibility. "Qualifying Life Events" and other pertinent issues.
- Ensure that our Client Employer’s benefits policies are compliant with the set laws and regulations.
- Audit all Carrier monthly Invoices and compare with premiums paid. Account for deficiencies.
- Assist HR Director in generating monthly and annual reports / updating benefit- related records.
- Ability to complete multiple concurrent projects with time with great urgency and accuracy.
- Attention to details. Lots of basic bookkeeping, recordkeeping, must not get overwhelmed working with numbers!
- Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with all levels of employees (including Company Presidents/Owners) & their participants in a sensitive and confidential manner.
- Highly proficient with MS office Suite skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
