Job Description
Under general supervision the Manual Lathe Operator is responsible for manufacturing metal components to customer specifications. Cleaning and deburring parts as needed.
- Must know how to operate and set up manual lathe machines.
- Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions; adjust machines as necessary.
- Reads blueprint for product specification such as; dimensions, tolerances, number or parts to be formed, and tooling instruction on type tooling required.
- Inspects product using calipers, micrometer, scales, templates, or other measuring instruments to verify conformance to blueprint or manufacturing instructions.
- Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as; burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying the Lead person.
- Makes set-up adjustments to machines and notifies Lead person when additional service is required.
- Perform minor machine maintenance such as; changing worn accessories, oiling and cleaning machines, dies, or parts, and adding coolant to machine reservoirs.
- Reports all malfunctioning equipment and non-conforming parts to Lead person to determine course of action needed.
- Follow all department procedures which include but are not limited to; keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organize part pans, and performs other housekeeping duties.
- Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all DME, Inc procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand 8-12 hours; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring positions. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Skills /Qualifications
- Must have at least 1 year of Manual Lathe Experience.
- Maintain a high commitment to quality, thoroughness, and efficiency in all work aspects and meet project deadlines/due dates.
- High energy with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Team player and be dependability is mandatory.
- Must be able to work overtime when required.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to make all inspections on machined parts using precision measuring equipment.
- Must be able to read blueprints and follow instructions as needed.
- Mathematical Skills required: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
