The primary responsibilities of this position encompass planning, instructing, directing, and checking the work of Mechanical Engineers in the Design Team. This position will be the chief designer and project organizer for development projects and perform complex activities relating to the design, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems. This position is responsible for estimating, planning, tracking, driving project schedules, and coordinating activities across different projects to ensure the achievement and alignment of company goals, standards and best practices. Incumbent will be regarded as an expert within a focused scope. This position will receive general directions and will report to the Manager of the Design Section within the Davis Development department. A wide degree of creativity, latitude and self-direction is expected.

- Estimate, plan, track, and drive project schedules and budgets
- Strong communication and effective supervisory skills needed
- Chief designer/project organizer for development projects
- Specifying the bill of materials for machines, communicating with suppliers, and ordering parts as necessary for prototypes
- Designing, modeling, and drafting parts and assemblies using 3D CAD software
- Completing high quality 2D drawings for designed parts and releasing them for manufacturing in a timely manner
- Attending and participating in regular design reviews with team members and management staff to ensure a high-quality design
- Traveling when required to check customer machines, support abroad factory machine production, and attend design reviews/conferences
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least six (6) years’ experience, or advanced degree with at least four (4) years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge of fundamental manufacturing and Mechanical design
- Ability to design, model and draft parts and assemblies using 3D CAD software (PTC Creo preferred)
- Knowledge of machine tools (structure, operation, etc.) is a plus
- Hands-on work experience with various mechanical systems is a plus
Work Environment:
General office environment will be experienced. There will be periodic exposure to manufacturing environments which may present hazards such as noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and other automated and manual machinery.
Physical Demands:
Frequent: Standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, sitting and reaching. Pushing, pulling, and lifting objects. Repetitive foot, leg, hand, arm, shoulder, and torso movements
Periodic: Travel, operating power equipment, sitting at desk, utilizing computers and phones
Occasional: Lifting or moving up to 50lbs
