About the role
DNV's Energy Services Systems is seeking a Laboratory Technician (with Hydraulic Load Frames) to perform specialized corrosion and mechanical testing to assess material behavior in hydrogen, CO2, hydrogen sulfide, and various other environments. This position will involve significant work related to mechanical (fatigue and fracture) testing of materials utilizing hydraulic test machines (e.g., Instron and MTS load machines). The research and testing performed in Columbus supports operations and infrastructure to meet the current energy demand, while accelerating decarbonization strategies that include transportation and storage of hydrogen and CO .
This role is based at our DNV office in (Dublin, OH), presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.
What You ll Do:
- Setup and run laboratory experiments, including:
- Handle pressurized equipment/gas and chemicals/test solutions (some environments will be hazardous, such as H2 and H2S thorough safety training will be provided)
- Collect data
- Analyze test specimens using photography, microscopy, balances, calipers
- Design/procure test materials and coordinate machining jobs
- Follow established safety and quality procedures
- Perform maintenance, setup, and calibration of hydraulic equipment and mentor other team members on performance of such
- Provide input to develop procedures for maintenance, setup, and calibration of hydraulic equipment
- Provide input on design of customized test set-ups
- Inspect, test, repair/troubleshoot, and install equipment
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Adhere to Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality Assurance program on projects.

About you
What is Required:
- High School Diploma
- Two (2) years of experience with hydraulic equipment used for dynamic material testing.
- Mechanical aptitude and hands-on work experience.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
- Ability to adhere to specific test procedures.
- Well-organized and proactive, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while interacting with a diverse group of clients and co-workers.
- Willingness and capability to travel up to 5% of the time.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 40 lbs.; capacity to routinely push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, etc., while handling such weight.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Completion of pre-employment background and drug screening, along with random drug screening as per Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
What is Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field.
- Experience working with projects on a fixed budget.
- Prior involvement as part of a project team.
- Proficiency in handling LabVIEW-based data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
- Basic knowledge of electronics.
- Knowledge of mechanical behavior and properties, such as stress, strain, fracture toughness, stress intensity factor, and R-ratio.
- Previous experience in a corrosion and mechanical testing laboratory.
