Middle School English and Social Studies Teacher
Job Responsibilities:
- Create and implement innovative unit plans for English and Social Studies using the existing curriculum scope and sequence that reflect sequential learning with differentiated activities based on students’ knowledge and skills.
- Work collaboratively with middle school colleagues
- Serve as a co-advisor to a group of middle school students
- Coach a sport or lead an after-school club
- Help with lunch/library supervision
- Participate in field trips and an annual grade-level trip.
- Maintain a vibrant, inclusive, student-centered, active classroom environment.
- Participate in all school activities, faculty meetings, committees, and parent conferences during and after school hours as may be necessary.
- Maintain a growth mindset and actively participate in faculty professional development and supervision, including observations and feedback conversations in order to continuously improve one’s practice.
- Commit to inclusive practices that support students of all backgrounds to succeed.
- Evaluate and give feedback on student progress regularly using standards-based assessment tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment with a commitment to cultural competency.
- Effective, timely, and professional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong initiative and organizational skills
- An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
- A sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree; Master’s degree preferred
- A comprehensive understanding of the field of English and social studies education and a demonstrated willingness to explore and embrace new pedagogical practices, technologies, and developing trends.
- Experience teaching English and Social Studies at the middle school and/or secondary school level preferred
