Purpose of Job
The Tiger Mentorship Program’s mission is to provide all students in their first year at Doane with the relationships and resources needed to enhance their collegiate experience and allow them to experience academic and personal success. Mentors provide Mentees the tools to increase their access to success by addressing personal, situational, and systemic obstacles.
The Tiger Mentorship Program will build peer relationships regardless of race, gender, sexual identity or orientation, income level, disability, religion, and/or First Generation status in order to provide holistic guidance and support that equips Mentees to overcome obstacles and thrive in all areas as a member of the Doane Community.

- Provide students with successful student mentors of similar race, background, ethnic diversity, gender identity, major, and/or extracurricular involvement.
- Provide identified students with supportive activities, interventions, and cultural experiences that foster a sense of belonging with other students, faculty & staff, and campus life.
- Develop integrated, accessible, and high-visibility services to create a culture of academic growth and personal success.
General Description and Duties
REQUIRED:
- Attend required Leadership Training on Sunday, April 27th
- Participate in required training sessions during Welcome Week as well as regular continuing education opportunities
- Meet with each assigned mentees once per week
- Attend weekly Team Meetings
- Maintain accurate and confidential observations, notes, records, and complete reports that are submitted to the Program Coordinator
- Help Mentees become familiarized with campus resources, and refer students to appropriate resources as the need arises
- Remain in good personal and academic standing with Doane University
- Model appropriate academic and social behavior
- Maintain Mentee confidentiality
OPTIONAL DUTIES:
- Head Mentor(s)
- 2nd or 3rd-year Mentor(s) that will serve as a touch point during Welcome Week; they will assist in scheduling Mentors, collecting feedback throughout the day, communicating with Welcome Week staff, and some evening activities. Must have availability to Zoom throughout the Summer for planning purposes.

- Mentor-Mentor
- 2nd or 3rd-year Mentors serving as a resource for 1st-year Mentors, and possibly lead weekly meetings
- ~30-60 minutes per week
- Administrative Mentor
- 2nd or 3rd-year Mentor collects, sorts, and files data
- ~30-60 minutes per week
- Social Media Team
- Open to all mentors; create weekly Social Media content for Mentorship Program
- ~30-60 minutes per week
- Study Desk Staff
- Regular evening hours open to all Mentors
- Coordinate social and/or experiential activities for participants
- Coordinate success activities for participants
- Assist Program Coordinator in planning events
Special Skills or Knowledge Required
Mentor Hiring Requirements:
- Sophomore standing or above
- 2.5* cumulative GPA or higher
- Students with GPA <2.5 may still be considered – See Coordinator for stipulations
- Desire to meet peers where they are and provide the support and resources they need to be successful

Total Weekly Hours Required
Flexible 4-8 hours per week/maximum 17 hours per week, $13.50 per hour
