Cashier

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cashier team is responsible for supporting the Visitor Center servers and guests in a fast-paced, high traffic environment. They process customer monetary transactions and are accountable for balancing assigned cash registers, promoting wine and retail sales and upselling to guests, maintaining the stock and aesthetic quality of our retail area, and assisting in customer queries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist guests in a warm and welcoming manner including directing guests on the property, providing information about our tastings and the Chateau Society, bringing wine to vehicles, or otherwise contributing to an exceptional guest experience

• Operates the cash register with particular attention to accuracy of all transactions, including procedures for processing cash, checks, gift certificates, promotional coupons, etc.

• Assists wine club members in fulfilling wine club pick-up orders

• Assists in stocking and organizing the retail area during the business so that the appearance remains clean, orderly, and welcoming throughout daily operations

• Answers customer inquiries about Domaine Carneros wines, assists walk-in customers with purchases of wine or retail items

• Maintains a knowledge base of retail items in order to better assist guests making purchases

• Assist in maintaining the appearance of the concierge station, all tastings mats/menus, and the general upkeep of the tasting area as needed

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work conditions in certain areas of the winery and Visitor Center are cold, wet, slippery and/or noisy. Frequent walking, including over uneven ground is required. Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and bend, lift, twist, kneel, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach and stoop as needed, sometimes for extended periods, and to occasionally lift and carry heavy items up to 40 pounds (may be aided). Ability to operate a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, printer, a 10-key and other usual office equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 6 months experience in a customer facing role requiring cash handling and processing credit card transactions within a fast paced, high volume, hospitality environment

• Must be 18 years of age or older

• Intermediate computer skills; experience navigating through and understanding database and table management systems

• Excellent attention to detail with a strong ability to successfully manage multiple requests simultaneously

• Ability to accurately record financial transactions and maintain a balanced cash register

• Ability to prioritize and problem solve effectively

• Ability to work a schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary

• Clean and professional appearance in compliance with the Company dress code

• Ability to portray a warm, welcoming, and gracious demeanor, even under stress and in a high-paced, high-traffic environment

• Excellent communication skills; Ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situation, applying courtesy and empathy as necessary

• Knowledge of wines, winemaking, and Napa and Sonoma areas is preferred

• Must be able to successfully complete Responsible Beverage Service training upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment

The schedule at this time for this position is Saturday-Tuesday. This position is part of our Tip Pool and participates in our Visitor Center's Sales Incentive Plan.
