What are the responsibilities and job description for the Domestic Violence Court Advocate position at DOMESTIC ABUSE COUNCIL?
Qualifications:
High school diploma and/or a two- or four-year degree in a social service-related field and/or a minimum of one year’s experience working in the domestic violence and/or sexual violence field or relatable field.
Principal Job Duties
- Conduct interviews and crisis intervention with survivors to determine their individual needs and explore safe options.
- Conduct ongoing lethality assessments, safety planning, goal setting, and service planning with each survivor on a case-by-case basis. Provide assistance with the completion of Victim Compensation, Injunction for Protection, and other applications necessary to provide safety and stability for survivors.
- Provide referrals to assist survivors in creating future safety as the priority. Referrals can include medical, housing, legal, job placements, education, parenting issues, and court advocacy. Conduct ongoing service management and transportation when needed.
- Advocate on behalf of survivors to ensure that all rights and remedies are secured.
- Assist survivors in obtaining an injunction for protection, or other relief and accompanying survivors when needed to secure rights and remedies and/or participate in all hearings that pertain to their cases at the survivor’s request.
- Continually conduct follow up on all open cases of survivors ensuring that needs are met, and referrals were effective.
- Answer 24-hour hotline based on established hotline guidelines. Maintain accurate participant data, complete statistics as required by funding and regulatory sources including the timely completion of date collection program with backup as required.
- Provide on-call support when needed, including backing up other DAC team members as assigned by supervisor.
- Attend and participate in weekly case review meetings, staff meetings and additional training as required.
- Facilitate support groups and group presentations to survivors.
- Ensure the facility and offices are safe, clean, and free of hazards.
- Ensure all grant requirements are achieved and proper documentation is obtained.
- Complete any other assignments at the direction of the CEO or Outreach Program Manager.
