POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Director of Clinical Education role is to support the vision and mission of Dominican University by preparing students to be innovative leaders, pursue truth, provide compassionate service, and graduate students from diverse backgrounds. The Director of Clinical Education will support the day-to-day operations of the Physician Assistant Studies Program and the education of its students in the clinical year. This individual will be responsible for retaining clinical preceptors, acquiring new preceptors and new clinical rotation sites, supporting curriculum review, evaluation, and data collection and assessment in accordance with ARC-PA standards. This role, in collaboration with the Program Director, will participate in the success of the Physician Assistant Studies program by assessing, evaluating, and implementing the clinical year curriculum and working with faculty in the didactic year to integrate clinical activities. The Director of Clinical Education will report to the Program Director and supervises the Clinical Coordinator and Clinical Administrative Assistant.
 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Working in collaboration with the University, program director, and medical director to develop new clinical affiliations and maintain current clinical affiliation sites that meet ARC-PA accrediting requirements.
  • Develop, coordinate, revise, and evaluate the clinical course curriculum.
  • Providing knowledgeable guidance for the clinical year program components.
  • Evaluating and acting as the course lead, along with the associate director, for the clinical rotations completed in the program by second-year students.
  • Evaluating and assessing clinical sites to ensure they meet ARC-PA requirements, working in collaboration with the program director, medical director, and faculty.
  • Participating in ARC-PA program assessment, data collection and analysis, and preparation of self-study reports in collaboration with the program director
  • Working with, mentoring, and participating in continuous assessment of the efficacy of clinical preceptors.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety of students at all clinical sites.
  • Mentor, advise, and provide leadership of physician assistant students in community service rotations.
  • Coordinate and implement monthly return to campus day activities.
  • Participate in data and assessment by assessing student learning, program satisfaction, and program effectiveness in accordance with ARC-PA Standards.
  • Participate in committees at the department level and college level.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the development and success of the PAS program by collaborating with the registrar’s office, Borra College of Health Science departments, Student Success and Engagement, and other offices throughout Dominican to ensure the success of the PAS program and students.
  • Perform other duties as requested, delegated, or assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • NCCPA-Certified Physician Assistant, Board-certified MD, or DO
  • Illinois license or eligibility
  • 3 years of experience teaching in a graduate health science program
  • 3 years of clinical practice experience
  • Ability to acquire professional affiliations and contacts in the medical field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • 3 or more years’ experience in finding and developing sites for accredited clinical programs
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities
  • An ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive community for students and colleagues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities including both oral and written skills
  • Ability to effectively advocate for the PAS program as a member of the inter-professional healthcare team
  • A strong commitment to the development and success of the PAS Program at Dominican University
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Salary and FLSA Status
  • Salary: $90,000 - $105,000 annually
  • FLSA Status: Exempt, 37.5 hours
