At Discovery Center Collective, we are committed to inspiring children, families, and groups through engaging and educational experiences. As a Camp Teacher or Camp Assistant, you will play an essential role in delivering exciting Camp Discovery programs that ignite curiosity and provide a stimulating learning environment for our campers. Our camps run during most school holidays and throughout the summer, and both Camp Teachers and Camp Assistants work collaboratively to create unforgettable learning moments.
Responsibilities:
- Camp Teacher Responsibilities:
- Deliver age-appropriate, exciting, and educational curriculum for assigned camps.
- Create moments of discovery and experiential learning, connecting lessons to accurate and relevant scientific information.
- Prepare thoroughly for the upcoming week’s curriculum before the camp commences.
- Organize and assemble necessary supplies for assigned camps.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Camp Assistants, Interns, and Volunteers.
- Supervise campers, ensuring they remain focused and engaged.
- Utilize effective classroom management skills to oversee campers' activities and maintain a positive experiential learning atmosphere.
- Regularly communicate important camp-related information to parents, camp staff, and camp leadership.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization within your camp classroom and in storage areas.
- Ensure that all supplies are properly cleaned up and stored at the end of each camp.
- Follow all guidelines as outlined in the Camp Teacher Handbook to ensure proper supervision and care of campers.
- Complete attendance reporting and documentation of incidents, injuries, behaviors, and other liability items.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Camp Assistant Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Camp Teacher in delivering age-appropriate, exciting, and educational curriculum for assigned camps.
- Assist in creating moments of discovery and experiential learning, reinforcing lessons with accurate and relevant scientific information.
- Support the Camp Teacher in thorough preparation for the upcoming week’s curriculum before the camp commences.
- Contribute to the organization and assembly of necessary supplies for assigned camps.
- Provide positive guidance and mentorship to campers, interns, and volunteers.
- Work closely with the Camp Teacher to supervise campers, ensuring they remain focused and engaged.
- Assist in maintaining effective classroom management, overseeing campers' activities, and cultivating a positive experiential learning atmosphere.
- Regularly communicate important camp-related information to parents/guardians, camp staff, and camp leadership.
- Contribute to the cleanliness and organization within the camp classroom and storage areas.
- Assist in ensuring that all supplies are properly cleaned up and stored at the end of each camp.
- Follow guidelines as outlined in the Camp Teacher Handbook, contributing to proper supervision and care of campers.
- Assist in attendance reporting, documentation of incidents, injuries, behaviors, and other liability items.
- Assist campers during lessons so that the teacher is able to continue on uninterrupted.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Camp Teacher:
- Certified Teacher or experienced Para-professional with a strong background in education preferred. Experience in education required.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional and immersive experiences for campers.
- Infectious enthusiasm for learning, inspiring campers through engaging educational activities.
- Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills, fostering clear and effective communication with campers, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Camp Assistant:
- Experience in education or child development preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional and immersive experiences for campers.
- Infectious enthusiasm for learning, inspiring campers through engaging educational activities.
- Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills, fostering clear and effective communication with campers, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Camp Teacher Compensation: $14- $16 per hour DOE
Camp Assistant Compensation: $10 - $12 per hour DOE
