SUMMARY:
Provide network and computer support to all campuses and departments. Develop, maintain, and monitor all district local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN). Responsible for installation, testing, and oversight of all network hardware, personal computers, software, and related equipment.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate’s degree with emphasis in networking computing or equivalent computer-related education
Networking Certificate
Preferred CCNA Certification
Experience:
Three years’ experience in networking environment
Three years’ experience in configuration switches, wireless controllers, and network access controller.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of data communications hardware and software; hardware repairs, microcomputer software (includes network operating system) and hardware, networking troubleshooting, hardware and software. Ability to learn new hardware and software with minimum of training. Ability to use hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations. Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals including printers and scanners. Ability to install and maintain network cables and hardware. Ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs. Ability to configure switches, routers, and other IT equipment. Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills. Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data. Ability to perform duties and comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administration
- Serve as a resource person to Donna I.S.D. technicians.
- Design and maintain district computers, Vlans, MDFs, and IDFs network maps.
- Establish and maintain district wide networking standards.
- Manage all data communication installation, implementation, and maintenance.
- Coordinate and perform preventative maintenance services to all district MDF and IDFs.
- Assist in coordinating and performing preventative maintenance services.
- Keep records of all work orders related to network issues.
- Maintain and update network infrastructure Inventory equipment.
- Assist in troubleshooting any issues related to slow performance and network crashes.
Installation
- Design, install, configure, implement, and maintain district wide area and local area networks.
- Set up and install network hardware and software, including cabling.
- Install and test network hardware, software, and upgrades.
Support
- Provide training and support to Donna ISD personnel.
- Maintain current knowledge on computer technologies.
- Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support.
- Maintain network design and configuration documentation.
- Assist technicians to identify and correct IT equipment and software related problems.
- Prioritize requests accordingly.
Network Security
- Develop and implement a district wide security system for all systems; ensure network security by maintaining network, Internet, and E-mail accounts.
- Design and implement backup procedures to ensure that backup of all networks and workstations are performed on a regular basis.
- Oversee backups and restore district data as needed.
- Assist with development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
Other
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
- Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental relations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and sit. Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of the telephone and computer are required. Climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling; frequent use of small hand tools and electronic test equipment are required of this employee. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time. This position also requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and staff and enduring occasional irregular or extended work hours. This employee may be required to be “on call” 24 hours a day.
The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee regularly works indoors. The noise level is usually quiet but occasionally varies, depending upon the location and the activity being conducted.
