The mission of Doral Health and Wellness is to support children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID / DD) and / or mental health conditions, along with their families, particularly those from underserved multilingual communities, by providing access to information, resources, and services that promote well-being and independence.
Salary Range : $18-$20 / hr, up to 10 hrs a week
Locations : Brooklyn, NY
Language : Haitian Creole
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The role of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) is to work with children and their families, providing resources and support, while strengthening daily living skills. Applicants may choose to work in our OPWDD program with individuals who have developmental disabilities, or in our HCBS program with individuals facing mental health challenges. Services are provided in the client's home or community setting.
Activities as a DSP for OPWDD program recipients primarily involve teaching individuals how to :
- Accomplish daily living tasks
- Improve socialization with peers
- Become acclimated to typical community activities (i.e., traveling, interacting with store staff / community helpers, and adhering to appropriate social boundaries in various settings).
