JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the class is to perform specialized, advanced para-professional library work in assigned service or administrative area of the County Library, and to perform routine library functions and clerical work as required. The class work within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plans, organizes, and supervises assigned services at the County Library’s headquarters or branch.
Participates in the development of Library policies and procedures; recommends policy and procedural changes to better meet Library and patron needs.
Supervises subordinate staff and volunteers; supervisory duties include scheduling, instructing, assigning, and reviewing work, maintains standards, coordinates activities, allocates personnel, acts on employee problems, and recommends employee discipline as appropriate. Provides training, advice, and assistance as needed.
Coordinates and oversees workflow at assigned desk; maintains desk supplies.
Trains new managers and branch managers on all aspects of circulation.
Checks books in and out; registers patrons for library cards; places hold on books as requested; processes inter-library loan requests; inspects returned materials for damage; verifies due date; computes and receives fines.
Supervises cash collection and accounting as directed.
Provides readers’ advisory services to patrons; answers reference questions; assists Library patrons in using various resources and equipment of the library, including the internet; interprets Library policies and procedures to the public.
Assists in the selection of new library materials as requested.
Assists in troubleshooting and maintaining the library’s automated systems.
Prepares the Library for opening and closing.
Receives and responds to public inquiries, requests for assistance, and complaints in areas of responsibility.
Assists in promoting the library, its services, and programs to the public; conducts Library tours.
Keeps supervisor informed of all issues and concerns encountered.
Performs general administrative/ clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, entering, and retrieving computer data, copying, and filing document, answering the telephone, etc.
Attends trainings, meetings, workshops, conferences, etc., as necessary to maintain job knowledge and skills.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Requires an Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two (2) years of college education with emphasis in a managerial or relative field.
Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience and seven (7) years of library experience.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent customer service skills.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical Library hours and days of operation are Monday through Thursday 8:00am-7:00pm and Friday through Sunday 8:00am- 5:00pm with normal working hours of 8:00am- 5:00pm. Employees must work 40 hours to maintain their full-time status. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays during emergencies or as requested.
