Previous applicants need not reapply to receive consideration.The purpose of this class is to perform routine-to-moderately complex technical accounting and clericalwork in the collection of unpaid taxes for Dorchester County and to perform related work as assigned.This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewedregularly by supervisor.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS• Greets and assists customers at the counter; answers the telephone and provides requestedinformation or forwards calls to appropriate staff person.• Provides a variety of information to the public regarding Delinquent Tax Collector's Officeprocedures, policies and methods.• Calculates, collects, receipts, records and deposits tax payments, penalties, fees, fines and othermonies.• Processes bankruptcy letters received by mail; verifies whether delinquent taxes are due.• Checks deeds for delinquent taxes; notifies new owners of delinquent taxes owed.• Receives add/abate letters and manually writes changes in posting book.• Researches property ownership to ensure that owners are located and notified of propertypostings/seizures as prescribed by law.• Locates and posts properties which are delinquent in taxes; takes pictures of properties todocument posting.• Prints delinquent property seizure and levy posters to be placed on properties.• Keeps accurate and complete records of all certified notices received or returned and allproperties posted; print and update green bar books for real estate and mobile homes.• Prepares folders of properties with unpaid taxes for tax sales.• Oversees assigned part-time staff in field and in office; provides guidance and directions; andchecks work for accuracy; leads the preparation, processing, copying, indexing, filing, transmittingand/or maintaining of various department documents.• Assists in coordinating department activities and functions with those of other Countydepartments, divisions, municipalities and outside agencies as appropriate.• Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance from Countypersonnel, attorneys, mortgage companies, property owners and others regarding delinquent taxcollection policies and procedures.• Performs general administrative/clerical work as required including, but not limited, to typingreports and correspondence, completing forms, copying and filing documents, entering andretrieving computer data, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, processing mail,etc.• Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment.• Attends training, seminars, meetings, etc., as required to maintain job knowledge and skills.• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
