What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant - Labor & Employment position at Dorsey & Whitney LLP?
We are seeking a Legal Assistant in the Labor & Employment Department in our Minneapolis office. As a valued team member, you will provide legal administrative support in a fast-paced environment to attorneys, paralegals, and business professionals. In this role, you will:
- Provide legal administrative assistant support to multiple timekeepers which may include partners, associates, and paralegals.
- Proactively maintain overview of timekeepers' workload and caseload; anticipate next steps and implement follow-up procedures.
- Provide support to other secretaries and attorneys as needed; monitor calendar, email, and database management for Senior Partner(s).
- Prepare, edit and file paper and electronic documents with appropriate courts and agencies and ensure proper procedures are followed and deadlines are met.
- Maintain timekeepers' calendars of meetings and business trips. Coordinate client/attorney/administrative conferences, meetings, and appointments for timekeepers and clients. Coordinate travel arrangements as necessary.
- Communicate and work with clients.
- Perform document production, including creating, revising and editing documents and finalizing format and style in compliance with appropriate requirements.
- Process and route incoming mail and electronic communications. Prepare documents for mailing, scanning, faxing; manage files and client contact databases.
- Assist with reviewing daily docket and coordinating with attorneys and paralegals on upcoming dates and deadlines for filings.
- Assist with billing process, including daily time entry. Prepare accounting documents as required, including check requests, expense and travel reimbursement requests, and trust documents.
- May be requested to perform other duties not mentioned above.
What we're looking for:
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- At least 4 years of legal assistant experience, with experience in Labor & Employment preferred.
- Knowledge of litigation and trial procedures, including ECF and Odyssey (federal and state) electronic court filing programs.
- Strong proofreading and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Strong customer service focus and skills.
- Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks at one time, and perform well in stressful situations.
- Ability to use good judgment in solving problems and resolving conflict.
- Excellent attendance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Required hours are 8:15 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; some overtime may be required.
