Summary
DWC seeks a full-time Director – Data and Analytics to support DWC’s data-driven approach to ending homelessness. The Director of Data & Analytics will play a lead role in guiding the organization's data-driven decision-making. This position will lead the development and implementation of data strategies to improve program effectiveness, enhance service delivery, demonstrate our impact, and advance our mission to end homelessness for women and gender diverse individuals. The Data Director is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the organization's data strategy and operations. This position reports to the Chief Program Officer.
Essential Functions
  • Develop and oversee the organization's data strategy, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and program priorities.
  • Establish and maintain robust data collection, management, and quality assurance processes.
  • Design and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of data dictionaries and metadata.
  • Stay abreast of best practices in data analysis, data science, and homelessness research.
  • Explore and implement innovative data-driven solutions to address homelessness challenges.
  • Conduct or collaborate on research projects to expand the organization's knowledge base and inform program development.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data and quality assurance specialists and Measurement and Evaluation Manager
  • Foster a data-driven culture within the organization.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with program staff, leadership, and external partners.
  • Oversight of agency data bases and funder data bases utilized by the agency (i.e. HMIS, CHAMP) and ensure all programs staff who utilize these databases are trained and equipped.
  • Oversee external relationships with funder database leads to ensure the submission of timely reporting and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Development Department to uplift data into impactful stories for internal/external communications and fundraising opportunities.
  • Equip the leadership team with one-pagers, briefs, graphics, etc, to share data-informed stories for greater impact on a standardized and regular basis.

Supervisory Responsibility
The Director of Data and Analytics will provide supervision to a team of professionals that includes Data Specialist, Quality Assurance Specialist and Measurement and Evaluation Manager
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear (e.g., publically speak and listen to others). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (e.g., ability to see a computer screen) and ability to adjust focus. Job requires the ability to lift up to 20 lbs, including files, open filing cabinets, bending, and standing on a stool as necessary.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5pm or 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Travel
Travel for conferences and trainings may occur. Travel for local meetings is required.
Remote Work
Hybrid, Required to work onsite 2-3 days a week from 8am-5:30pm or 9am-5:30pm.
Required Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Public Health, or a related field, preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in data analysis, data management, and program evaluation, preferably in the social services or non-profit sector.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing data teams.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Position Qualifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Expertise in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS).
  • Experience with homelessness data systems (e.g., HMIS).
  • Strong knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong administrative skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of government funding/grants and contracts preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for ending homelessness and a commitment to social justice.
  • Experience working with homeless populations and understanding of the complexities of homelessness.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Cultural humility.
  • Must be a CA resident and live no more than 80 miles from DWC; must be available for in-person meetings at DWC.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative TB test result within the last twelve months, on first day of hire.
  • You will be required to be up to date on your vaccinations against COVID-19 and provide documentation. If you are fully vaccinated and not yet eligible to receive a booster dose, then you must receive the booster dose within 30 days of becoming eligible and eligibility begins 5 months after receiving final primary dose. If you are fully vaccinated and have received a booster dose, you are considered up to date with your vaccinations. Unvaccinated individuals must receive their 1st dose before their first day of hire. Partially vaccinated (for 2-dose series) individuals must receive their 2nd dose within 30 days of being hired. The second dose of a two-dose vaccine series is due 4 weeks after the primary dose.
Pay Range
$90,000-$100,000/yr
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment. DWC does not sponsor employment visas, such as H-1B.
