Summary

The Manager - Caf (MC) is responsible for the general management and oversight of the MADE by DWC's caf line of business (LOB) and its job training program. This role focuses on the four (4) functional areas of the LOB including administrative duties, operations, sales, and creating a best-in-class paid job training program. This position supervises regular staff and trainees to ensure effective store operations. The MC works in close collaboration with other DWC staff, community partners, and consultants to ensure business and program success. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, people management skills, is well organized, able to manage multiple priorities, has innovative ideas with a history of delivering results, and can thrive in a fast-paced environment. This position reports directly to the Director of Social Enterprise (DSE).

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement LOB business and program strategies, and tactical plans, collaborate with supervisor to ensure alignment with department and agency Oversee onboarding and training of consultants and volunteers who support LOB.
  • Supervise and develop staff including selection, onboarding, training, evaluation, and professional development.
  • Ongoing enhancement of LOB training program.
  • Provide scheduled and ad hoc revenue, sales tax, inventory, financial reports, and analytics to DSE.
  • Accountable for retail operations, money handling, deposits, and store opening and closing.
  • Achieve LOB goals by monitoring progress and using analytics to make good business decisions.
  • Utilize scheduling software to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Develop, coordinate, and successfully implement LOB virtual and live events.
  • Manage inventory to improve sell-through, reduce loss, and reduce waste.
  • Ensure compliance with city, county, state, and federal employment, health, and safety standards.
  • Create and implement an annual marketing strategy.
  • Provide caf regular and ad hoc department, committee, and board reports to DSE.
  • Develop and manage strategic partner relationships with suppliers, vendors, and thought partners.
  • Stay on top of industry trends and the competitive landscape.
  • Maintain LOB calendars to ensure product launch, marketing, and other important dates are met.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure marketing plans are launched on time and on budget.
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the Downtown Women's Center (DWC) and MADE by DWC.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization.

  • Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has supervisory responsibilities of two (2) part-time staff and trainees in the job-training program.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office and retail environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, retail software, caf equipment, barista equipment, POS systems, inventory management systems, and marketing apps.

    Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand on a stool, lift and carry up to 35 lbs., and travel between the two DWC sites, Pop-Up venues, and partners as necessary.

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time, exempt position. Office hours are 9 : 00 am to 5 : 30 pm with the flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary. This position requires flexibility during peak seasons, including adherence to blackout dates, between October 1 - December 31.

    Travel

    Travel between the two DWC sites and occasional travel to pop-ups and off-site events is a requirement for this position.

    Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in business or social enterprise is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a caf or restaurant.
  • Minimum 2 years experience supervising staff.
  • ServSafe Manager Certified (County of Los Angeles). Must obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Keen understanding of caf / restaurant business management including food handling, food inventory management, team development, customer service, POS systems management, revenue tracking, and business analytics.
  • Understanding of social enterprise business is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 Suite including Teams.
  • Keen understanding of retail operations and business strategies.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Professional attitude; team- and service-oriented, friendly, and positive.
  • Knowledge of issues related to women experiencing homelessness, poverty, and mental health is a plus.
  • Cultural humility.
  • Must be a CA resident and live no more than 80 miles from DWC.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative TB test result within the last twelve months, on the first day of hire.
  • You will be required to be up to date on your vaccinations against COVID-19 and provide documentation. If you are fully vaccinated and not yet eligible to receive a booster dose, then you must receive the booster dose within 30 days of becoming eligible and eligibility begins 5 months after receiving the final primary dose. If you are fully vaccinated and have received a booster dose, you are considered up to date with your vaccinations. Unvaccinated individuals must receive their 1st dose before their first day of hire. Partially vaccinated (for 2-dose series) individuals must receive their 2nd dose within 30 days of being hired. The second dose of a two-dose vaccine series is due 4 weeks after the primary dose.
  • Pay Range

    70,928-$75,000 / year

    Being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment. DWC does not sponsor employment visas, such as H-1B.
