The DowntownDC Foundation is a registered 501c3 organization that was launched by the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) in 2019. Our mission is to enhance the vibrancy and inclusivity of the DowntownDC community by providing critical services to individuals experiencing homelessness, revitalizing parks, and enriching public spaces. By investing in these areas, we foster a thriving, world-class destination for residents, visitors, and businesses.

POSITION OVERVIEW


The DowntownDC Foundation seeks a dynamic and strategic Senior Development Manager (SDM) to work in close partnership with the Executive Director (ED) to execute our development priorities and achieve our revenue goals. This position is both strategic and tactical, as it is responsible for executing the Foundation’s fundraising strategy and operations.

 

We are seeking an experienced, organized, energetic, self-starter who is committed to our mission and the DowntownDC community. The SDM will be responsible for bringing both structure and imagination to the growing sophistication of our development activities, including corporate partnerships, major donors, and our signature annual event, Toast to DowntownDC. This role also requires strong experience working in a CRM and with donor data management.

 

In addition to the ED, this position works closely with the Strategy and Development Consultant (SDC) and the DowntownDC BID staff to promote an organizational culture of philanthropy and execute programs and operations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Development Leadership

 

  • Serve as the Foundation’s representative for internal BID program discussions, liaising with BID staff as well as external partners and vendors, as needed
  • Drive the creation and execution of annual appeals and campaigns, including online campaign content creation and promotion
  • Work in collaboration with Foundation staff and board of directors to move engaged constituents into the Foundation’s donor pipeline
  • Conduct prospect research on individual major donors, corporations, and foundations
  • Optimize and manage a grant calendar to track all grant activity
  • Lead the grant application and reporting process, collaborating with staff as needed
  • Under the guidance of the ED and SDC, update corporate sponsorship and partnership collateral
  • Manage sponsorship recaps and sponsorship reporting requirements
  • Draft dynamic, reader-friendly, and high-quality writing for initial drafts of grant application

 

Development Communications and Operations


  • Responsible for the execution of the Foundation’s quarterly newsletter and other digital communication
  • Lead annual impact report ideation and creation
  • Serve as Foundation’s Salesforce NPSP manager responsible for monitoring standard operating procedures (SOP) and use protocols within the system to maintain a high degree of data integrity. This includes regular audits of opportunities, contacts and accounts and regular communication with the Foundation’s Salesforce consultants
  • Ensure all online donation information from Give Lively is synced, and data is populating in Salesforce, troubleshooting as necessary with the respective vendors
  • Liaise with finance and accounting staff for invoicing, gift processing, tracking, and reporting
  • Process and acknowledge gifts
  • Lead social media content generation for Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook
  • Audit and maintain Foundation website content
  • Manage email contact list in MailChimp
  • Provide basic design assistance
  • Serve as gatekeeper for Foundation general inquiries

 

Special Event and Programming Support

  •  Supervise the work of event planning staff/contractor. The event planner’s work will include vendor bid solicitation, communication, coordination of vendors, volunteers, and staff schedules before, during, and after events, etc.
  • Serve as the Foundation’s main point of contact for BID programming support including initiatives, programs and events at the Downtown Day Services Center, Franklin Park, and other key public spaces within the DowntownDC community

You need to have:

  • Minimum 5 years of nonprofit experience, with at least 3 years of nonprofit development experience
  • Experience managing and improving development operations, ranging from CRM management to budget monitoring to gift processing
  • Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to simultaneously manage high levels of detail across multiple projects
  • Strong communications skills, able to easily, respectfully, and sensitively communicate with stakeholders of all ages, generations, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Enthusiasm to propose fresh ideas without prompting by leadership, openness to feedback and criticism of those ideas, and a persistence to bring those ideas to life
  • Strong work ethic and proactive mentality

  • The ability to travel locally, as needed, for meetings and events, some evening/weekend work for spot events

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS


The salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000 annually, and compensation is commensurate with experience and/or education. The DowntownDC BID offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan options, and paid time off. 

 

The organization currently has a 4-day in-office policy. Please note that this policy is subject to change and may be adjusted based on future organizational needs and circumstances.
