Job Summary

The Optometric Assistant is responsible for performing front office functions relating to the in-take and checkout of patients in the optometric clinic setting. This job requires a high level of flexibility and excellent communication skills. Our office is looking for a personable and team-oriented person to join our optometry practice. The applicant must be good at multi-tasking, take pride in their performance, and have excellent patient service skills.

Responsibilities and Duties

Duties will include answering phones, scheduling patients, insurance authorization, filing insurance claims, preliminary patient work up, and contact lens training. No optical sales services are required. Our hours are Monday-Friday 9am-6pm and Saturday 9am-4pm.

Qualifications and Skills

A high school diploma is required. Previous experience in a medical/optometric office is preferred for this position. Experience with computers and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems is recommended for this position.

You must be a quick learner who can take direction well, and work in a team-oriented environment. The ability to adapt to changes as they occur in both patient volumes and staffing levels is needed to work in a medical office.

You should exhibit good interpersonal and communication skills. Good multi-tasking skills and electronic medical record (EMR) skills are required for this position.

An energetic nature and excellent customer service skills are needed.

You must have the maturity to withstand pressure that may arise in relation to working with the public and doctors. The applicant needs to have a stable personality and enjoy working in a small family-oriented practice. Please give salary requirements. Expected starting salary should be $17/hour, but is negotiable for experienced applicants
