Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician

Dr. Schwartz Optometrist and Associates is seeking a full-time ophthalmic assistant to join our team in Sterling Heights, MI.

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Ophthalmic Technician. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting our optometrists in providing exceptional eye care services to our patients. This position involves various pretesting procedures and specialized diagnostic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions. No prior experience is required, but preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pretesting of patients, including autorefraction/keratometry, to assist in determining accurate prescriptions for eyeglasses or contact lenses.
  • Measure intraocular pressure (IOP) using both non-contact tonometer and iCare tonometer to screen for glaucoma and other eye conditions.
  • Perform fundus photography to capture images of the back of the eye for diagnostic purposes.
  • Administer Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans to aid in the diagnosis of retinal diseases and conditions.
  • Conduct visual field testing to assess the patient's peripheral vision and detect any abnormalities.
  • Utilize electronic medical records (EMRs) to accurately document patient information and test results.
  • Conduct Dry Eye testing using Keratograph 5m to evaluate tear film stability and ocular surface health.
  • Administer Dry Eye treatment using the Forma-I radio frequency device.
  • Assist optometrists in various clinical procedures as needed.
  • Must be comfortable touching patient's face as needed for diagnosis and treatment

Qualifications:

  • No experience required, but previous experience in a medical or ophthalmic setting is preferred.
  • Strong willingness to learn and undergo job training to develop necessary skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude towards patient care.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and busy medical environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise protocols.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
