Summary:
The Engineering Shop Technician will support research and development (R&D) activities and fabrication/assembly projects. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and dismantling R&D extrusion lines and assisting in the fabrication and assembly of prototypes, components, and products. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Primary Duties / Responsibilities: to include, but not limited to the following:
- Set up and configure R&D extrusion lines according to test specifications, ensuring proper alignment and calibration.
- Operate and monitor extrusion equipment during experiments to ensure optimal performance and data collection.
- Dismantle and clean extrusion lines after tests, ensuring equipment is ready for future use.
- Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot extrusion line issues and improve processes.
- Record and document test results, observations, and equipment performance analysis.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to fabricate and assemble parts and prototypes.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized machinery to cut, shape, and assemble materials.
- Conduct inspections and quality checks on fabricated and assembled components to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Assist in the development and assembly of R&D prototypes and new product designs.
- Perform routine maintenance to ensure all tools and machinery are in proper working condition and calibrated as needed.
- Work closely with R&D, engineering, and production teams to meet project deadlines and objectives.
Required Skills / Experience / Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus.
- 2 years of experience in R&D, manufacturing, or a related fabrication/assembly environment.
- Hands-on experience with extrusion equipment and processes preferred.
- Basic TIG and MIG welding experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on skills with tools and equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Work Environment / Schedule: (as applicable)
Open shop environment with a high level of direct interaction with on-site production facilities. Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and working with hands. Work schedule is Monday – Friday, during standard business hours.
