Position Summary

Under the direction of the Dean of Students, the part-time Success Coach will engage with schools in the Madison County and Huntsville City and educate students, parents, counselors, teachers, and administrators about college career programs and occupations in Region One. This position develops and nurtures relationships with local high school representatives and with business community leaders to assist high school students in enrolling and completing a postsecondary education and becoming a skilled contributor of the workforce.

(Continuation of this position is contingent upon grant funding)


Salary Range: Appropriate placement of Local Salary Schedule "L" at $16.49 - $24.90 per hour based on education and experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Success Coach shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with policies established by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the Drake State Community and Technical College Faculty and Staff Handbook. The Success Coach is responsible for working closely with faculty, staff, students, K -12 and industry partners regarding duties relating to student success.
  • Recruitment & Promotion
    • Promote and recruit students for the Success Coach Program
    • Represent the program in designated area high schools through classroom/group presentations, one-on-one sessions, and student organization meetings
    • Assist in campus tours, New Student Orientation, and other recruiting activities
  • Career Exploration & Planning
    • Provide career assessments and exploration tools (e.g., Lightcast Career Coach) to high school students
    • Assist students with resume preparation, financial aid guidance, scholarship, and college admissions applications
  • Student Success & Support
    • Offer postsecondary career planning, scholarship resources, and financial aid support to help students transition to college
    • Maintain proper files and registration for Success Coach students, sharing information with teachers and college instructors
    • Support students as they matriculate through their program of study at Drake State
  • Partnerships & Engagement
    • Work closely with high school teachers, administrators, and parents to promote student success
    • Collaborate with agencies and organizations like North AlabamaWorks and Region One to enhance program outcomes
    • Assist in hosting business, industry, and college tours for high school students
  • Program Development
    • Conduct orientation sessions for teachers on program policies and Drake State requirements
    • Provide resources to help students complete high school and pursue formal career education
  • Additional Requirements
    • Flexibility to participate in off-campus and weekend events/workshops
    • Ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds
    • Occasional travel with overnight stays and participation in off-site training/conferences
  • Administrative Duties
    • Retain and submit documentation for accreditation purposes
    • Assist with processing admissions applications for Success Coach students
    • Assist preparing reports
    • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Success Coach/Dual Enrollment Coordinator, Dean of Students, and/or President

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college
  • Demonstrated ability to build meaningful, quality relationships with students, employees,
and the public
  • Computer Skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and database programs
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to problem-solve with appropriate cognitive ability
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work effectively, and perform duties through interruptions under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to be a self-starter and meet deadlines
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college
  • Minimum (1) year work experience in Student Affairs at an institution of higher learning
  • Experience with Banner and Degree Works
