Medical Assistant Dream Sleep Medicine Gap Year Bridge Program Jan 2025-Jan 2026 Cohort

Successful candidates will have graduated from or should be expecting to graduate from a four-year university with all premedical requirements satisfied. Submission of MCAT/PA-CAT scores is required. This is a highly competitive position and applicants are encouraged to apply early. Out of state applicants are welcomed! There are currently 2 positions remaining .

This Gap Year Cohort will start 1/6/2025 and finish 1/16/2026.

We are located in Frisco, TX (a suburb of Dallas, TX)

This is also an excellent opportunity for a pre-med/pre-pa candidate who is looking to gain valuable hands-on clinical and administrative experience in a fast-paced sleep medicine clinic. Our physician enjoys mentoring and teaching. This will be an ideal position for someone who may not have clinical experience but is a quick learner, compassionate, enthusiastic, friendly, and would enjoy working in both back office (as medical assistant) and front office (check-in, check-out receptionist). Training will be provided.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Over 1200-1300 Hours of Clinical Hours is expected to be obtained
• Rooming patients, including obtaining vital signs, obtaining reason for visit, and documenting symptoms their frequency, and severity.
• Direct patient care experience with Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulator Programming and Management
• Working closely with patients to obtain data from non-invasive ventilators, sleep study generation and understanding the various types of testing, along with explaining procedures.
• You will gain a working understanding of the neuropharmacology, neurophysiology, and diagnosis and management of sleep disorders.
• Help in crafting medical appeals letters and advocating for patients to receive necessary diagnostic and therapeutic modalities
• Provide courteous and compassionate care.
• Documents all required information in electronic medical record.
• Communication and correspondence including lab results, prescription management, and referrals

Our Gap Year Program is designed to be of high educational value for any premedical student committed to our profession. You will be able to experience unique opportunities such as educational lectures, observation of procedures within sleep medicine, and establishing a strong mentor relationship with our clinician. We provide care to patients in over 37 states across the USA so you will also understand the nuances of delivering care via Tele-Health. Our goal is to help you obtain a well-rounded understanding of the healthcare system, provide an excellent clinical-based experience, and as noted below have a great experience outside of work during your year in Dallas!

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Answer telephones in a cheerful manner.
• Schedule appointments.
• Take messages for patients using electronic medical records.
• Greet and check in patients and check out patients
• Collect co-payments.
• Address patient requests and inquires.
• Resolve patient concerns.
• Process insurance issues (i.e., verifications and authorizations) and assist patients in understanding insurance plans.
• Return calls as necessary
• Various assigned administrative processes

This position is for 5 days a week. This position is ideal for a pre-Med/pre-PA candidate who is looking to gain valuable clinical experience while preparing for graduate school. You will become an EXPERT in the day to day operations of a medical practice.

Support for student initiated scholarly activities are also welcomed (shadowing, case reports, journal club).
