Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Auto Body Painter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for automotive repair and restoration, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. As an Auto Body Painter, you will be responsible for prepping and painting vehicles to their original condition, ensuring high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Surface Preparation
- Cleaning the vehicle: wash off dirt, grease, and old wax.
- Remove parts: take off trim, mirrors, lights, and handles (or mask them if not removing.)
- Sanding: sand down old paint to create a smooth base.
- Weld components as necessary for structural integrity during repairs.
- Repair damage: fill in dents or scratches with body filler, then sand again.
- Mask the vehicle: tape off areas not being painted (windows, tires, etc.)
Priming Vehicle
- applying primer and sanding.
Mixing Paint
- Color matching.
- adding hardeners/reducers.
Painting
- Spray base coat.
- Dry between coats to allow proper flash time between coats to prevent runs or defects.
Clear Coat Application
- Apply clear coat to add gloss and protect paint.
- Drying/curing.
Finishing Touches
- Wet sanding and buffing.
- Reassemble vehicle.
- Final inspection ensuring the finish is smooth, even, and free from defects.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
Experience
- Previous experience as an Auto Body Painter or in a similar role is preferred.
- Proficiency in using various hand tools, power tools, and equipment related to auto body painting.
- Experience in auto restoration is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
