POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the manufacturing facility, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, cost control, and compliance with industry regulations. This role plays a critical part in managing cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial planning and insights to drive operational efficiency and profitability. The Controller will work closely with senior management to provide financial insights and strategic guidance for business growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Management & Reporting:
- Prepare and oversee financial statements, including, but not limited to, income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, industry-specific financial regulations, and external party reporting requirements.
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to support business decision-making in a succinct and timely manner.
- Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:
- Develop and maintain cost accounting systems to analyze product costs and profitability.
- Oversee & analyze inventory valuation, cycle counts, spoilage, waste & yield, and standard costing methodologies to control costs
- Identify cost reduction opportunities and efficiency improvements in production, including tracking overhead, labor costs, and material usage.
- Partner with operations to improve cost efficiency in production and supply chain processes.
- Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning:
- Lead annual budget preparation and financial forecasting processes.
- Analyze variances and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Develop financial models to support strategic planning and capital investment decisions.
- Monitor plant performance metrics and provide financial insights to optimize operations.
- Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations (state and federal), audits, and financial reporting requirements, including alcohol-related operational and excise tax filings.
- Work with external auditors, tax professionals, and regulatory bodies.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
- Cash Flow & Treasury Management:
- Manage working capital, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow optimization.
- Optimize financial processes to improve cash conversion cycles.
- Oversee banking relationships and financing arrangements.
- Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Supervise and develop accounting staff, including providing strategic direction for the accounting function and ensuring the team follows appropriate accounting standards and processes.
- Partner with operations, supply chain, and production teams to align financial goals with manufacturing processes.
- Support ERP system improvements and financial system enhancements.
- Act as a financial advisor to plant management and senior leadership on key business decisions for the site.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred).
- Experience: 7 years of accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, and financial reporting in manufacturing.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar; implementation experience a plus).
- Sophisticated knowledge of Excel and financial modeling.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Robust attention to detail and organizational skills with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive financial discipline.

Base Salary Compensation Range: $150,000 - 175,000
