A professional care giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the overall direction of non‑professional operating room personnel and activities under the direct supervision of the Assistant Operating Room Manager. Administers peri‑operative care for patients undergoing surgery using general anesthesia, sedation, and local anesthesia when appropriate. The patient care requirements include those of infant, child and adolescent patients when these patient populations are served as well as the adult.

- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Administers peri‑operative care for patients undergoing surgery using general anesthesia, sedation, and local anesthesia when appropriate.
- Individualizes patient plan of care as it relates to the particular procedure that the patient is undergoing as well as to individual patient issues.
- Is in charge of OR room, ensuring that appropriate personnel, equipment, instruments available to do procedure.
- Educates both patient and family on perioperative care they will be receiving.
- Documents in a complete and logical manner ensuring all critical information is included on patient record.
- Able to operate and troubleshoot perioperative equipment
- Acts as a patient advocate
- Assists anesthesiologist when needed.
- Passes patient information on to appropriate staff and physicians.
- Charges patients appropriately
- Participates in process improvement activities of unit
- Attends mandatory in-services and unit staff meetings.
- Utilizes standard precautions in patient care.
- Utilizes self directed learning to improve nursing knowledge and skills
- Maintains a safe OR environment for patients, staff, and physicians.
Education and/or Experience:
- Graduate of approved school of professional nursing
- Previous OR experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Licensed as an RN in the state of Texas
