The Structures Chief Engineer is responsible for the success of the Structures group within North Carolina.
Responsibilities include serving as engineer of record, leading design, QA/QC of structural calculations, leading marketing efforts for bridge pursuits, and staff mentorship.

As a Structures Chief Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Serve as Structures Project Manager, Engineer of Record, or Design Lead on multi-disciplined transportation projects using both conventional and alternative delivery methods
- Serve as Technical Structures Design Lead for all aspects of bridge design and plans preparation
- Direct engineering alternatives investigations through the collection and analysis of data, performing calculations, and evaluation of alternate solutions
- Direct planning, design and production of structural calculations, written reports, engineering drawings, and specifications for projects related to bridge and transportation structures
- Perform technical reviews (QA/QC) of structural calculations, written reports, engineering drawings, and specifications ensuring appropriate design criteria, procedures and guidelines are followed
- Lead marketing efforts for bridge project pursuits including pre-positioning strategies, teaming, client interactions, and NCDOT letters of interest and proposals.
- Support construction phase of projects, including responding to RFI’s, review of shop drawings, problem solving, etc.
- Train and mentor junior engineers
- Bachelors of Science from an ABET-accredited university in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer and/or Structural Engineer
- 15 years post registration structural engineering experience
- 20 years of relevant bridge design and plans production experience, which may include reinforced concrete bridges, prestressed/post-tensioned concrete bridges, steel plate and box girder bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, sign/signal structures, sound barrier walls, and other transportation-related structures
- Experience using a variety of bridge design software that may include FB Multi-Pier, Leap Bridge Concrete, Smartbridge, LARSA, CSI, STAAD, MDX, Shoring Suite, and Atlas
- Proficiency in Microstation, GEOPAK, OpenBridge Modeler, AutoCAD and/or CADD platforms to produce transportation structure designs and plans
- Ability to do 3D modeling in OpenBridge Modeler is a plus
- Familiarity with structural/bridge design process through the application of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
- Ability to guide junior staff as well as participate in the design and detailing of all aspects of small- to large-scale multi-discipline bridge projects of varying technical complexity
- Construction specialty engineering experience is a plus
- Experience with post-tensioning applications is a plus
- Experience with straddle bent design is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and time management skills
- Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
