Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Aerospace Machine Shop Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing customer specifications, blueprints, and technical drawings to develop accurate cost estimates for machining and assembly projects in the aerospace industry. You will work closely with engineers, production managers, and suppliers to ensure all estimates are precise and competitive, helping the company deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation: Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements to prepare detailed cost estimates for machining and fabrication projects.
- Cost Analysis: Assess labor, material, tooling, and overhead costs to develop competitive pricing while ensuring profitability.
- Collaboration: Work with sales, engineering, production, quality assurance teams, and customers to clarify design specifications, identify potential production challenges, and adjust estimates accordingly.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunities related to the quotes and communicate these with the site teams.
- Continuous Improvement: Recommend improvements in estimating procedures, systems, and processes to increase accuracy and efficiency.
- Tracking and Reporting: Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle, comparing actual expenses with estimated figures, and generate reports for management review.
- Client Communication: Liaise with customers and vendors to ensure a clear understanding of project requirements and provide updates as needed.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a combination of education and relevant experience
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in aerospace machining or manufacturing estimating, with a solid understanding of aerospace materials, machining processes, and standards.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications. Familiarity with aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP) is highly preferred.
- Software Skills: Experience with estimating software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. CAD/CAM software knowledge (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is a plus.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy in cost estimation and the ability to identify discrepancies or missing details in specifications and drawings.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to anticipate challenges and offer creative, cost-effective solutions.
- Project Management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple estimates and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Physical Demands:
- 10% travel to DRT Aerospace sites as well as customers / suppliers. During the first few months, this might be higher.
