Job Summary

Supports the functions of the Safety and Security Department by assisting the Director.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Uses mainframe, personal computer, keyboard, terminal, and software, keys data, types drafts, memos, and reports, prepares and runs queries and specs. Manages key control, Access 2000 system, and ID system.
  • Answers phones, including emergency call taking, dispatches security officers to calls, greets students, faculty and staff members, and visitors, combining information, making appointments, recording and distributing messages.
  • Using personal computer, prepares and processes correspondence of the Director, from rough draft or dictated materials. Makes corrections in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Using telephone, FAX, campus mail, and computer, sends and receives messages.
  • Using organization skills, prioritizes work load so that reports are completed in a timely manner and deadlines are met, keeps both manual and computerized filing system current.
  • Receives after-hour building passes from instructors, using PC computer enters data. Prints and distributes authorized after-hour building passes to instructors.
  • Will maintain the schedule for student workers, act as a liaison between the student workers and Director, update manuals at the direction of the Director and/or Assistant Director.

  • Must be accepted into and enrolled in one of the graduate programs at Drury University. Must be in good academic and behavioral standing.
  • Must complete the minimum number of graduate hours per semester or summer to be classified as a full-time graduate student and be in good standing.
  • Ability to use personal computer and mainframe computer systems and Access 2000 system.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft applications including Word and Access, are necessary in order to do word processing and to maintain work flow/key control.
  • Ability to use a copy machine to duplicate information.
  • Ability to use a fax machine and telephone to record and distribute messages.
  • Attention to detail and concentration for proofing documents and providing accurate corrections.
  • Ability to be discreet with confidential matters.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and files.
  • Ability to greet visitors and conduct business in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Ability to use a two-way radio to dispatch calls to security officers and physical plant staff.
  • Ability to maintain professional appearance.
  • Ability to maintain an attractive, comfortable and professional office.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills are required for communicating effectively with visitors, law enforcement students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to maintain filing systems, manual and computerized.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt as situation demands.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, to organize and set work loads.
  • Ability to set goals and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to think logically in problem solving.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle for off-campus deliveries and pick-ups.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to change priorities as situation demands.
  • Ability to handle emergencies in a calm manner.
  • Ability to accurately key information into the computer.
