POSITION SUMMARY:
The Ophthalmic Technician generates important preliminary information to be used by the optometrist; reviews patient status, performs medical tests, and assists in patient education. While maintaining the office workflow and assuring that the patients' needs are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information. Performs testing that is required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint, and or requested by the doctor.
- Is able to take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record in the charting system.
- Is able to perform and accurately record visual acuity, lensometry, refractometry, applanation, tonometry, basic muscle balance testing, assess pupils, and confrontation visual fields. Administer additional diagnostic tests when required.
- Acts as scribe while physician examines patient entering data into electronic medical records or hand-writes in paper chart, while maintaining patient flow.
- Assists with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, sets up, and cleans up from any and all procedures.
- Assists with patient education.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the work day.
- Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT USED:
- Oculus Keratograph 5M anterior segment photography
- IOP
- Fundus photography
- Other equipment as required

Education:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience:
- 2– 4 years medical experience in eye care preferred
- Working in professional office
- previous patient interaction experience is preferred

Starting Pay:
- $13.00 - $20.00 pending years of experience
- Opportunity for quick increase pending performance
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 26 – 40 per week
