GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Responsible for supervising the maintenance, operations, and repairs of fleet equipment and ancillary equipment; does related work as required. Pay is $52-$60,000/annually depending on experience.

General description of the position:

Under the general direction of the Assistant Area Director, is responsible for the management of fleet operations, including responsibility for preventative and demand maintenance, defining equipment that needs to be replaced, vehicles and equipment, technical training of employees, overall employee supervision and the compliance with safety standards. The position is a supervisory position, Supervisors, Technicians. Responsible for preventive maintenance compliance, DOT compliance, cost per mile, direct labor, mean time between failure and spend within budget along with other standards to be developed.

Scope of work:

  • Supervises the maintenance, operations and repairs of the fleet which includes automobiles, trucks, construction equipment, snow removal vehicles and buses.
  • Prepares area specific or contract specific specifications for vehicles to assist Fleet with purchasing new vehicles and equipment.
  • Provides budget recommendations for maintenance operations.

-Ensures parts are purchased from authorized dealers, contractors, vendors to secure materials to include the use of preferred vendors or national accounts. -Develops near term, short term and long-term plans to ensure the shop is following all goals, KPIs and directives assigned.

  • Assists in deposing obsolete or surplus vehicles and equipment to auction company or other means.
  • Approves all purchase orders requiring approval exceeding the supervisor’s level.
  • Ensures area is actively pursuing all reimbursements from warranties, insurance claims and other sources as applicable. This includes monitoring warranty usage for the area and the return of warranty parts. Ensures warranty repair work is completed according to warranty guidelines and properly charged back to the vendor or manufacturer.
  • Develops and implements a preventative maintenance program for the shop in accordance with company guidelines. Recommends appropriate methods and repairs to the vehicles in the area taking into account, cost of repairs, overall value of the vehicles and operational needs.
  • Reviews the out of service vehicles to determine if there is excessive downtime for maintenance and repair of vehicles in both the shops and at vendors. Investigates complaints received on vehicle condition and equipment failure from operators and operations then takes corrective action as needed.
  • Inspects garage and work areas for adherence to safety codes and regulations and ensures corrective actions are completed.
  • Prepares written reports, presentations and analysis as directed or needed. Interviews prospective employees and approves all maintenance hiring within the shop.
  • May develop a fleet safety program, including the investigation of accidents involving fleet equipment and estimating of damage costs.
  • Will use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments.
  • Will inspect the parts storeroom noting all issues and follow-up that all faults are corrected.
  • Monitor that all technicians are working live within Fleetwave, all parts are charged to the appropriate workorder and that workorders are being closed properly.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Thorough knowledge of the maintenance, operation, and repair of motor equipment of all types (i.e. automobiles, diesel engines, gas engines, buses, vans).
  • Good knowledge of the principles of mechanical design; good knowledge of repair costs.
  • Ability to make and understand mechanical drawings, shop prints.
  • Ability to plan and delegate work to others.
  • Ability to act responsibly in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to work with others; ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, maintenance repair systems, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software.
  • Resourcefulness.
  • Reliability.
