SALARY: $90,000 - $108,500 based on aligned years of experience up to 10 years. We also offer a relocation stipend for anyone joining us from 75 miles or more from Denver!

THE ROLE

DSST Public Schools (DSST) seeks an Associate School Director of Operations to join one of the leading charter school organizations in Colorado. DSST Public Schools’ mission is to transform urban public education by eliminating educational inequity and preparing all students for success in college and the 21st century.

We will have a centralized hiring process for school based leadership roles at DSST Public Schools. We will review applications on a rolling basis November-April.

Overview of Position:

The Associate School Director (ASD) of Operations serves as a systems leader on the campus, supporting culture and instruction through excellent operations, in partnership with the School Director. They are responsible for coaching and managing people in both their functional operations work and leadership practice as well as their continuous growth personally. In addition to this, the ASD, in partnership with the School Leadership Team, is responsible for the results of the school. The ASD role supports our belief in the human condition, that every human being strives to be fully known for who they are and the unique contribution they make to the human story.

The ASD of Ops will report to the School Director, and receive regular coaching and support from the Home Office (Network) Operations Team. They will be evaluated on data-driven performance indicators including, but not limited to student attendance, student retention and parent/student satisfaction, and network-normed School Operations Standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Campus Leadership 25%

  • DSST Mission Driven: Demonstrate a sense of urgency about achievement for ALL students and preparing every student for four-year college.
  • Pursue solutions with tenacity that maximize conditions to support student achievement. Is willing to do whatever it takes to get the work done right.
  • Model professional maturity; emotional constancy in stressful situations, bringing out the best in others, seek solutions and positively motivating.
  • Mentor and coach staff members to encourage growth and results; Identify and systematically develop future leaders.
  • Acts as a strategic partner to the Campus Director and/or School Directors (middle and high school); fully responsible for executing the vision of the leader in all areas.
  • Cultivate conditions that support a school culture centered on core values that deeply care for each student and staff member; holds each student and staff member to the highest level of accountability
  • Provide leadership to all staff and students in establishing a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and fun school culture.


Operations Leadership: 65%

  • Implement systems that “sweat the small stuff,” maximize the programmatic goals of the school, and are scalable as the school grows.
  • Develop solutions to complex problems involving all stakeholders.
  • Manage with fiscal responsibility - develop a disciplined planning process that identifies the school’s highest-priorities.
  • Operations Team Management: Manage and coach the high school operations team across, including the Office Manager, Athletic Director, and the Community Engagement and Recruitment Manager. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Weekly Checkins that prioritize tactical support and ongoing leadership development
    • Weekly team meetings to align on team priorities and execution
  • Functional Operational Systems Development and Support: Develop, monitor, and manage all ongoing operational systems, including but not limited to:
    • Daily Front Office Operations, including customer service for staff, students, and families as well as managing student information aligned to district and network standards
    • Time Off & Sub Management, including managing time off requests and coverage needs daily
    • Emergency Response & Crisis Management, including serving as Site Incident Commander and fostering a culture of safety in accordance with network and district standards; design and execute training, drills, and ongoing safety processes in partnership with school, district, and network stakeholders
    • School Finance, including managing the school budget and budget owners, and overseeing school-level accounting practices for all purchases,fees, and deposits
    • Traffic & Campus Management, including developing safe traffic flow plans and duty schedules, and collaborating with school leadership across campus to ensure aligned support and execution
  • Service Partnerships and Coordination: Regularly monitor and collaborate with service partners, including but not limited to:
    • Transportation, including managing schedule changes, tracking and reporting issues with district-provided transportation, and systems to support school field trips and excursions
    • Food Services, including managing schedule changes and special needs, and systems to ensure compliance with federal, state, and district standards.
    • Facilities, including managing systems to address daily and short-term facilities needs, as well as coordinate and drive results with facility manager to ensure cleanliness and ticket resolution
    • Nursing, including coordinating with nursing staff to ensure strong health and safety practices as well as compliance to district and state standards
    • Community Use, including coordination with district and network stakeholders to support and/or manage off-hours facility use and building access
    • Shared Campus partnership, where applicable, to foster collaboration on shared spaces and campus priorities
    • District & state compliance, including coordination with network and school team on district charter renewal and health department inspections
    • District compliance , including coordination with network and school teams on district charter renewals as well as ensuring campus stakeholders complete necessary processes to maintain good standing with the district
  • Enrollment Oversight and Execution: Oversee planning and execution of strategies to ensure maximum enrollment on campus, from recruitment to October Count, including but not limited to:
    • Recruitment and Onboarding, including coordination with school leadership and network community engagement team to develop and monitor goals during School Choice
    • Student and Family Registration, including overseeing front office execution of registration systems, processes, and events
    • Scheduling, including collaborating with network and school leadership on the development of a master schedule, meeting deadlines to ensure schedule is accurately updated in Infinite Campus, and developing and maintaining processes aimed to ensure with 100% of students scheduled by the first day of school and regularly updated as enrollment changes occur
    • Attendance, including oversight on accurate and timely attendance and systems and coordination that support that across the operations and school teams
  • Campus Instruction & Culture Systems: Develop and implement systems that support strong conditions for teaching and learning
    • Site Assessment Leadership, including coordination with network and school staff to plan for and execute assessments in alignment with network, district, and state standards
    • Athletics and Activities, including oversight on facility scheduling, on-site management of activity buses to ensure safety and compliance
    • Technology, including setting vision for executing technology roll-outs and checkins in partnership with school and network staff; coordination and monitoring with on-site IT to ensure students and staff have access to the technology; developing contingency plans alongside school leadership for internet or other tech outages
    • Culture Systems, including coordination with school leadership on developing and executing systems that support consistent values-based culture and discipline across multiple functions

Network Leadership 10%

  • Regularly participate in and share best practices at Operations team professional training and development
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of training and development for front office staff
  • Create training materials and actively contribute to a community of practice of operations staff
  • Collaborate with the Home Office Operations team and other School Operations Leaders to continually elevate challenges and to proactively improve operational processes network-wide


Additional Duties:

  • Recruit and hire school faculty
  • Serve as a recruiter for new students; actively engage prospective families in an effort to draw more students to choose your school; be willing to take on additional tasks to support recruitment, as needed.
  • Participate in network wide Leadership Development


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • At least 5 years working in schools, including at least 2 years in K12 school administrative or operations leadership
  • At least 2 years of managing direct reports in a school-based setting
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, manage and lead adults to successful outcomes
