The Senior Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing and processing the company's payroll operations for a designated region. The position requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and other departments within the company.
Duties And Responsibilities
Process payroll for assigned region, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations
Perform payroll-related reconciliations and audits to ensure accuracy and completeness
Manage payroll tax compliance, including filing of all required tax returns and remittance of taxes
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues and concerns
Stay up-to-date on changes to payroll laws and regulations, and ensure compliance with all applicable requirements
Collaborate with HR, Accounting, and other departments to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing
Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance payroll operations
Educational Background / Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred. Relevant certifications, such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), are a plus.
At least 5 years of experience in payroll processing, with a demonstrated ability to manage payroll operations for a large organization
Experience working with payroll systems, preferably ADP Workforce Now
Knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels
Skills & Competencies
Strong attention to detail and ability to work with confidential information
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications
Function / Market & Industry Knowledge / Business Acumen / Processes
Supervisory Responsibilities (if any)
May supervise junior payroll staff as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in the transportation and logistics industry
Experience working with multi-state and/or international payroll processing
Familiarity with HRIS systems and processes
Experience with process improvement initiatives
Language Skills
Fluent in English (oral and written)
Computer Literacy
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software applications is required.
Experience with payroll processing software, such as ADP Workforce Now, is preferred.
