DTO Law

DTO Law is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a Sr. Litigation Paralegal role in our busy litigation practice.

DTO Law is a fastpaced, entrepreneurial firm that provides sophisticated and efficient legal services to its clients. The ideal candidate for this position has a strong work ethic, works with minimal direction, learns new software tools quickly and independently, and is comfortable working in a fastpaced, team-focused and dynamic law firm.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Litigation Paralegal who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and thrives in a team-focused setting. The successful candidate will assist attorneys across multiple offices in all phases of litigation, from inception through trial/arbitration and appeal. This position requires minimal supervision, excellent organizational skills, and an advanced understanding of litigation processes in both federal and state courts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Case Management & Coordination

    • Coordinate and manage complex litigation matters across multiple jurisdictions (primarily CA and NY federal courts).
    • Work closely with attorneys and other paralegals to maintain case calendars (in coordination with the Docketing Clerk), track deadlines, and manage workflows.
    • Handle high-volume document organization, including indexing, filing, and maintenance within iManage and SharePoint document libraries.

Discovery & E-Discovery

    • Draft, review, and finalize written discovery requests and responses (interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission).
    • Collect, organize, and review documents for production, including scanning, labeling, and Bates stamping.
    • Upload and manage data in eDiscovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, Logikcull), perform targeted searches, apply redactions, and prepare privilege logs as needed.
    • Coordinate with outside vendors for larger-scale document productions and database management.

Pleadings & Court Filings

    • Assist attorneys with proofreading and finalizing pleadings, motions, and related court documents in compliance with federal, state, and local rules (e.g., Southern District of New York, Central District of California).
    • Assist in cite-checking and applying correct Bluebook formatting to briefs, motions, and other filings.
    • Remain up to date with federal and state rules and procedures.

Pre-Trial & Trial Support

    • Assist with deposition preparation: draft notices/subpoenas, schedule court reporters, compile and mark exhibits, and coordinate with witnesses and opposing counsel.
    • Organize and maintain trial/arbitration binders (exhibits, witness lists, expert designations).
    • Coordinate logistics for trials and arbitrations, including managing on-site document needs, witness coordination, and supporting attorneys in real-time trial preparation.

Research & Analysis

    • Conduct legal research using Westlaw or similar platforms for case law, statutes, regulations, and procedural rules.
    • Compile research findings into concise summaries or reports.
    • Monitor changes in procedural rules (federal, state, and local) and keep the team apprised of relevant updates.

Administrative & Team Support

    • Collaborate with attorneys to ensure all delegated tasks are completed accurately and on time.
    • Communicate with clients, external counsel, and internal team members in a professional, clear, and efficient manner.
    • Track and record billable time (task-based billing) daily.
    • Contribute to a team-oriented environment by sharing knowledge, mentoring junior paralegals, and offering assistance on firm-wide initiatives.

 Preferred Skills & Qualifications

Technology Proficiency:

    • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), including the use of Styles, TOC/TOA creation, Compare Docs, and Track Changes.
    • Experience with Adobe Acrobat (redaction, Bates numbering, document comparison, page organization).
    • Familiarity with iManage (Document Management), SharePoint (document libraries), ShareFile, and other file-sharing platforms.
    • Proficient in using eDiscovery platforms such as Relativity, Logikcull, or similar tools.
    • Experience with PACER, CM/ECF, and other state e-filing systems.

Litigation Knowledge:

    • Demonstrated experience with both federal and state court litigation procedures and requirements.
    • Familiarity with arbitration forums and processes.
    • Skilled in Bluebooking and cite-checking for submissions in federal district courts.

Soft Skills:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise effectively with attorneys, clients, and support staff.
    • Excellent attention to detail, organizational abilities, and follow-through.
    • Capable of working independently under tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
    • Demonstrated professionalism, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated litigation paralegal experience in a law firm environment.
    • Experience coordinating with multiple attorneys and paralegals on large-scale cases.
