POSITION SUMMARY:
The Coordinator of Database Systems oversees the accuracy, integrity, and security of district data within the student, staff, and other information systems. This position requires a deep understanding of database management and information systems and a commitment to maintaining data confidentiality and compliance with relevant regulations.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems or Computer science, or a related field.
· At least 5 years of experience in an educational institution.
· Extensive knowledge of teaching techniques, curriculum, and adult learning.
· Proven experience in data management and database administration, preferably within an educational institution.
· Experience with Student Information Systems (SIS) and HR Systems (e.g., PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, ProgressBook, Frontline).
· Experience in data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau and Jaspersoft, including the creation of dashboards, reports, and interactive visualizations.
· Strong knowledge of database management systems, and proficiency in SQL, including experience with SQL Server and related tools (e.g., SSMS, Profiler).
· Strong understanding of data security and compliance regulations within the education sector (e.g., FERPA).
· Proficiency in front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript) and related libraries/frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js, Angular, jQuery, LESS).
· Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS
· Familiarity with Filemaker.
· Skills in PowerShell and Unix shell scripting.
· Accurately develop databases in a logical manner from scratch.
· Understand the concepts of other programming languages.
· Ability to analyze, interpret, and organize large datasets to derive actionable insights.
· Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Available for on-call support as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Data Management:
· Implements and maintains data quality control measures to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
· Performs regular data audits and resolves discrepancies to maintain a reliable database.
· Supports the District with data extracts.
Database Administration:
· Administers and maintains district databases, ensuring optimal performance and responsiveness.
· Collaborates with IT professionals to address technical issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement system upgrades.
User Support:
· Provides support to end-users, including faculty, staff, and administrators, on SIS and HRMS-related inquiries and issues.
· Conducts training sessions for new users and assists in the development of training materials.
Data Security and Compliance:
· Implements and enforces data security measures to safeguard student and staff information.
· Stays abreast of relevant regulations and ensures the SIS complies with data protection laws and institutional policies.
Reporting, Automation, and Analysis:
· Generates and distributes regular reports on student data for various stakeholders.
· USE SQL Queries to create automations and workflows.
· Creates data dashboards with JSP or other tools to gather, process, and present data in a visually appealing and interactive manner.
· Collaborates with academic and administrative departments to develop custom reports to meet specific data analysis needs.
· Maintains and updates existing forms, and develops new online forms.
Collaboration:
· Works closely with other departments, including human resources, enrollment, scheduling, and academics, to streamline data flow and improve overall data management processes.
· Collaborates with IT teams to implement integrations with other systems and tools.
Other:
· Ensures the safety of students.
· Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
· Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
· Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
· Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
· Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.
· Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
· Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
