This role is responsible for leading the Salt Lake City plant in the DuBois Chemicals network managing ~15 production and support operators, 1 supervisor, and dotted line supervision of the quality team, EHS, customer services representatives, scheduling team and procurement. The plant manager is responsible for maintaining the safety, quality, culture, delivery, productivity, cost, customer service levels and inventory for the Jacksonville plant in the DuBois network. This role reports to the Director of Manufacturing and is also responsible for continued growth and capacity planning for the plant as part of DuBois broader acquisition strategy to improve the optimization of our network footprint.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Improve the environmental, health and safety of the site utilizing the safety scorecard process and partnering with the EHS manager (headquarters) for improvements and investigations
- Improve the production quality, working closely with our QC team stationed in Cincinnati, OH as well as our Regional QC department based out of Nampa, ID.
- Manage day to day batch production goals for the business to reduce SKU backlog
- Work with the continuous improvement leaders to implement process changes that would improve throughput and improve productivity in the plant
- Work with the training manager/human resources to develop process to recruit, train and onboard new employees and mentor supervisors and leads to help improve retention, onboarding and training
- Coach, mentor and train the working leads and supervisors to improve the culture and deliver on key KPI’s for the business
- Analyze data, hunt for opportunities and drive cost out/productivity improvements utilizing functional resources across the network to deliver on productivity goals for the plant measured on a dollar per pound basis at the plant level
- Build capital plan and mentor maintenance supervisor/maintenance staff to execute capital improvements that would impact safety, quality and productivity in the plant with ROI calculations as needed as well as maintain the PM program and establish OEE calculations
- Communicate business goals to the plant regularly and improve communication across the plant on goals and objectives that meet our safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity and inventory targets for the site
- Manage relationships with reports on cultural improvements for the plant and actively address employee complaints/grievances
- Work with functional leaders and direct reports to create capacity to meet changing business demands and growth targets year over year for plant output whiling improving cost/productivity
- Responsible for delivering budgetary goals for the site and executing action plans to meet budget that would be presented monthly at site operating meeting to the Director of Manufacturing, COO and Financial Planning and Analysis focal
QUALIFICATIONS
- Looking for a candidate with knowledge of batch chemical processing, proven success in improving the EHS culture
- Chemical engineering or chemical manufacturing experience preferred
- Candidates should have strong communication skills and great organizational/time management skills
- Candidates must have intimate knowledge and experience in change management
- Candidates who would strive in our environment are willing to get hands on daily and willing to operate in a fast-pace, action-oriented environment
- Candidates must show strong leadership skills and ability to drive accountability utilizing both disciplinary and incentive-based action plans
- Proven successful work experience as a plant manager.
- Experience in the chemical industry or related field, with exposure to manufacturing best practices and continuous improvement.
- Ability to drive change, improve/create new processes in a fast-paced environment.
- Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, capital expenditure, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources).
- Financial acumen - Understands and uses financial statements as the ultimate scorecard.
- Experience with developing and approving capital investment projects.
- Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise.
- Applied continuous improvement principles thru use of Lean and Six Sigma concepts/tools.
- Knowledge of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory and stewardship processes.
- Computer literacy, proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical and problem solving-ability to gather data, analyze effectively, and communicate results.
- Ability to drive improvement in the plant.
- Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills.
- Must possess solid leadership traits and be able to solve problems, make decisions, set priorities, and remain self-motivated.
- A decisive and self-confident manner at setting priorities and interacting with other team members.
- Attention to detail and a willingness to hold self and other responsible for adherence to established procedures.
- Analytical, data driven mind-set and capability to analyze and drive efficiency when opportunities are presented.
EDUCATION REQUREMENTS
- BS degree in Engineering, Business Management, Supply Chain, or related field required.
