Physical Education Teacher/Coach

Summary: 

At Duchesne Academy, we focus on the whole child – intellectual, spiritual, and physical. Led by the Religious of the Sacred Hert Goals and Criteria, along with our curriculum, our programming is strongly rooted in the Catholic doctrine. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting physical fitness, sportsmanship and have experience coaching student athletes, preferably in K-12 environments. Based on experience, the Physical Education Teacher/Coach may serve in the Lower, Middle, or Upper School in any of the following sports: Cross Country, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Lacrosse, Track and Field, Swimming, Golf, Tennis or Softball. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Plan, organize, and lead lessons designed to promote academic, social, emotional, and physical development in a supportive and engaging learning environment. 
• Prepare lesson plans that are aligned with the Duchesne PE curriculum and that accommodate differences in student grade level, learning styles, and physical abilities. 
• Assess student achievement through formal and informal testing. 
• Update curriculum maps throughout the year for all units taught.  
• Supervise students and foster a safe learning environment, by monitoring and responding to events in the classroom, outdoor play areas, and other areas of the campus. 
• Attend faculty meetings, serve on committees as required, seek and attend professional development opportunities. 
• Evaluate each student’s growth and performance.  
• Coach two seasons of sports at either the Middle School or Upper School level. 

Requirements

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required 

• Bachelor’s degree 
• Teaching Certificate a plus.

• Adherence to all personnel policies, procedures and rules contained in the Duchesne Employee Handbook 
• Maintain productive relationships with other Duchesne faculty and staff, working closely with other Department Heads where applicable 
• Maintain professional relationships with the Board of Trustees 

Upon Hiring 

• Must pass criminal and sexual offender registry investigation. 
• Successful completion of CMG Safe Environment Training. 
• Current CPR certification.

• Maintain professional credentials and complete required training. Participate in and provide documentation for at least one professional development opportunity per year in addition to those required and provided by the school.   
• Respect the confidentiality of the school, its employees, students, and families.  
• Comply with the policies and procedures as articulated in the faculty and staff handbook.  
• Authentically engage in the school’s self-reflection process that requires written goals and measured progress towards them.
