Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Cutting pipe to length and preparing pipe and fittings for installation by the pipelayer.
• Assisting pipelayer with installation as needed.
• Securing pipes, manholes and other materials and equipment to excavator before lowering into or removing from trench.
• Assists pipelayer in initial compaction in the trench taking care to maintain grade.
• Ensures that materials for pipelayer and other workers are ready as needed on the job site.
• Locating and hand-digging existing utility lines.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, motor vehicles and heavy equipment and perform related duties as assigned by Crew Lead.
• Works closely with other crew members using hand signals to coordinate work and ensure safety.
• Maintain orderliness, cleanliness and safety at jobsite.
• Follow Supervisor’s instructions closely.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in utility construction.
• Strong coordination, time management, active listening and reasoning skills required.
• The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and to work toward the solution of those issues.
• A minimum of 3 – 5 years of related skill, knowledge and experience in underground construction.
• Must be able to read, understand and apply information obtained from blueprints, surveys and job specifications.
• Understand and adhere to all safety regulations.
• Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements.
• An unwavering focus on safety.
• Willingness to travel throughout Central and Western Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Eastern Dakotas.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

• Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
• Work outside in all weather conditions.
• Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Regularly work extended | overtime hours, outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions at all project locations.
• Travel is required.
